Otto Frei Swiss Tropic Style Strap

Post by R@cerx » Fri Oct 27, 2017 2:52 pm

Anyone have experience with Otto Frei Swiss Tropic Style Silicone Rubber Straps? The shipping is high and there is an $18 minimum purchase, but might be a good option.

They suck. Silicone lint catchers. The generic looking keepers are slightly too big also IIRC.

Thanks Nick, looking for something like this for my BP FF Bathyscaphe. Maybe I'll just get the OEM Sailcloth.

The gruppo gamma is the best tropic rubber I’ve handled. However it’s pricy, 22mm, and a little long for my wrist.

At 130/75, the 6 side is gonna be a bit long. Looking more and more like an OEM strap is in my future. Thankfully I have the BP buckle.

Here are some other possibilities, none of which I have any personal experience with, but I believe the Zuludiver Tropic from Watchgecho is made by Bonetto Cinturini. The tropic sreap from Janis Trading appears to only come in 20mm.

No, it's not Tourettes.

My strap from Uncle Seiko is stiff and plasticy. Probably true to older Seiko straps, but not my favorite. The Watchgecko tropic is much softer rubber, but smells strongly of citrus. Not an awful scent, but kind of industrial cleanser-ish. I haven't tried the Janus yet.

I just saw that Dan Henry is coming out with a real rubber tropic strap for what was said a really good price. No idea on when though. Apparently he had some at the worn and wound event this weekend.

This would be cool. Maybe Terry could check them out for us.

I checked them out and they are great. He is only doing them in 22-24mm right now.

I've been reading several good things about the new Uncle Seiko Tropic rubber on WUS. They also take the Seiko fatties. Comes in 19, 20, & 22mm.

Frei is an interesting person to deal with. Not convinced on that strap though.
