My MM300 Strap Chronicles
My MM300 Strap Chronicles
Since purchasing my Seiko MM300 SBDX001 I've been on a massive buying spree for straps. Up to 40 straps now and there's not much left to purchase. So I thought I'd list the various straps and discuss them a bit here in case anyone is interested in straps for this watch.
Nutshell: SBDX001 is a fairly thick, heavy watch. Watch height is 14.6mm and measures 44mm wide, 42mm across the bezel. I have a 7" wrist and sometimes I like to wear my watches down on the wrist and other times up a little further. Depends on the strap. I find the MM300 very comfortable and the weight doesn't bother me. But I do feel like the height and thickness can alter certain strap fitments. I really enjoy this watch. I think just about any strap looks nice even though some match better than others.
So I'll kick it off with a strap I recently received from Drew Boen. I think Drew used to be active on this forum. But for anyone not familiar with his work, his instagram page can be found here:

There's a bit of a wait for Drew's work, but I don't mind waiting and it was well worth it. Drew quoted me $105 for a fully stitched strap which is very reasonable imho for a custom leather strap.
I asked Drew for suggestions for my MM300 and he suggested Horween Castle Rock Dryden:
I like progress pics, and here is the long side fully stitched up:
Once Drew started on my strap, he notified me by later on the same day that it was completed. The next day it was shipped via USPS Priority mail which is included in the price of the strap.
Leather is soft and pliable. Immediately comfortable. Stitching is silver and perfect. Buckle is a nice stepped SS and the tang fits the holes nicely. Peeve of mine when the holes are too large or much too small for the buckle.
Even though the measurements are perfect, on this watch, I'm on the last hole. So in the future I'll opt for a little more length on the long side. And I'll measure the last hole as my "center" for similarly thick leather straps.
VERY highly recommended!! Fit/finish are excellent and Drew is great to deal with. If anyone loves watches and watch straps it's Drew!!

I don't normally like the MM300 on leather, but that looks great.

That looks awesome and great post. I'm looking for rubber strap options for the MM300 right now so if you've got any suggestions that route, please post them. Thanks!

Forgot to add, Drew does fantastic work and couldn't be better to deal with. His canvas straps are legendary.

iso was well balanced, and bc 317 rubber too.
(i liked the seiko rubber but found the tail too long for me)

That looks great. I would prefer a deployant or OEM clasp if it can be fitted but it's a great look that fills the lugs well.
only accurate watches are interesting

That looks really nice it fills a lot of the inevitable gap between spring bar and case which personally is just the way I like it.
