Spring bar failure
Spring bar failure
Well this is the second bar failure I've ever had. The first was after 8 hard years of use and back then I didn't really know much about watches, let alone ever even removing a spring bar. Lately I've been wearing the Scurfa more and with the time change I'm finally going to let the Seiko stop for the first time since I got it. I had been using the Scurfa on ToxicNATOs almost exclusively and decided to bust out the bracelet today. I pulled the strap off, disengaged the spring bar with a proper removal tool and bang! One of the spring bar ends shot clean out of the bar. I guess I reused it too many times. Whoops.

luckily it didn't fail while wearing the watch

That had on two of my SRP's, the end actually collapsed into the spring bar casing.

Re: Spring bar failure
Were you swapping a lot of straps too? I was ready to blame it on user error but it might have just been a fluke. I don't think it was from wearing NATOs tightly because the way the bracelet end links fit seems to put more of a strain on the bar than the NATO pulling, plus if that was the case it would have likely failed when I was wearing it on the strap.

Nope, just when I took the stock straps off of them when I first got them. So that is why I started carrying the ToxicSRP spring bars.Torrid wrote:Were you swapping a lot of straps too? Hi T. The ToxicSRP's have 1.2mm ends. Correct me if I'm wrong but the old OEM seiko diver bars have 1.1mm tips. Is Seiko cutting bigger lug holes on the new watch models?

Re: Spring bar failure
I think since the SRP has drilled lugs that is why it is 1.2mm. Otherwise I assume it would have been 1.10mm like normal.HapaHapa wrote:Hi T. The ToxicSRP's have 1.2mm ends. Re: Spring bar failure
Don't think they'd fail under normal use, it's just that the hollow section is no longer crimped enough to keep the end in the bar.hobbit712 wrote:luckily it didn't fail while wearing the watch

We put a lot of faith in these little metal tubes and springs.
Re: Spring bar failure
The stock bars are 1.1, but they have some wiggle. The 1.2 bars fit with virtually no play. I also prefer that they are longer and fill the hole completely.HapaHapa wrote:Hi T. Re: Spring bar failure
I have never seen spring bars from Sinn. Hoppy would know. But I do sell .9mm which are the same size.HapaHapa wrote:This is how Sinn makes their bars right?toxicavenger wrote:Right, and at the extension is 2.8mm on the ones i have so they fill it all the way up.hoppyjr wrote:The stock bars are 1.1, but they have some wiggle. Sort of. On the Sinn bars I've seen, one end is straight and longer, the other has one "stepped" section but it's still shoulderless (like Pat's summer dresses).
Re: Spring bar failure
Terry do you make any 20mm Sinn spring bars for ezm1, 103, ezm13, 203, etc....??

Correct. The U series uses 22 x 2.0 x 1.0 tips, shoulderless.
In my EZM3F I used 20 x 2.0 x 1.0 tip shoulderless as a substitute for fixed bars.
