Discolored canvas

Post by koda240 » Sat Oct 01, 2016 4:34 pm

Gents, need some input. I have a couple straps that were sold with my bpff to a buddy of mine. He never wore them and they just sat. So, when I bought it back this week I see that the canvas is all discolored. I tried washing it like Drew had told me but didn't really do much. I'm wondering if I could dye them or something. I love these straps but not gonna wear them like this. Any ideas would be great.

That's weird. Nothing to lose at this point by trying to dye them.

Dye or maybe a bleaching agent. Oxyclean.

They look like they sat in the sun (window?) crossed over each other.

Weird fading minus exactly where the keepers kept two parts together one on top the other half.

Ooooh. I thought the dark part was discoloration / mildewed. So Dark parts are the original color. Hmmm. Yeah I'd say choose a darker dye. How about charcoal.

Yeah two halfs stacked and held together by the keepers (keepers preserved original color) left out in the sun to die. It'll happen to anything let alone cotton canvas.

I'd leave them in the sun for a month and see if they equalize.

I would wear the hell out of them on a beater. They still look cool and maybe color equilizes over time due to sun, sweat, water etc etc

This. I don't think dyeing is likely to work well.

I'd wear them as is. Vintage canvas and all that. Gives it character.

Thanks for the input. I may try to clean again but even a little dye might be the way to go so it evens out.

Even leather dye bleeds on contact. I'd seriously consider not.

This. Don't dye, you'll regret it. Massively.

Totally sun bleached.
Did he leave them on the dash of Wu's Hyundai for 3 months?
