ToxicMod...

Post by DoctorC » Sun May 29, 2016 7:28 pm

So... Terry hooked me up with a sweet new Toxicnato in blue for my blue NAFT...

I love the color and love the strap, but...
I have never been a big fan of the extra hardware on the nato style straps. Because I work so much with my hands, l prefer a more low profile fit overall. I have looked for a blue Mil-series style strap for a while and have not had any luck.

So, on a nice sunny afternoon, went to work.

First , cut off the extra flap.. and the keeper at the end of the flap

These things are built so perfectly, with the extra keeper cut off, it is a perfect fit around two layers of the strap

I ripped out the stitch on the 2nd keeper and pried the two layers apart making a nice hole for the new nylon keeper to fit into.

Image

I folded the new keeper and tucked the two ends into the hole and glued with flexible glue (not shown) and clamped it down with a c-clamp to set up.

Meanwhile, I set about trimming off the extra length...

After melting the edges down... Done...

Sweet success! I love the low profile and the curve of the buckle fits the wrist oh so sawheet!

Thanks Terry for my new favorite strap!

It would have come out cleaner if I had realized how well the toxic natos were built.
I assumed that the Rings were split.. Those things are one piece and solid.. If I had started off cutting them rather than try to pry off, the hole for the keeper would have ended up more clean..
The buckle is so much better than what is out there on mil series straps..
