What Strap for My Incoming Vintage Bulova Oceanographer 666

Post by MikoB1 » Sat Dec 26, 2015 6:19 pm

I have an incoming vintage Bulova Oceanographer 666 Snorkel. It is coming without a bracelet or strap. (See photo below). What do you all suggest for a strap? I think lug size is 19mm.If I went with a bracelet I would want the original bracelet that came with the watch--does anyone have any leads on one of those?

I'd go vintage tropic.

The Tropic vintage is a good idea. Just in case anyone has a lead on the original bracelet, attached is an ad showing what they look like--It would be way cool to get one.

Here's 3 to get some ideas. The (real vintage) tropic star on the orange '71 Snorkel is the best, Dimodell on '68 Snorkel second. I have a chicklet bracelet but it's 17.5 and unsigned (not uncommon for that era Bulova). Image

I'd go for a tropic rubber strap.
Sorry no lead on that bracelet.

Wow that watch is gorgeous ! Congratulations !
I can't think of what to suggest other than a dark side blue 20mm perlon while you consider your options. A 22mm perlon worked perfectly on my 21mm Jenny.

The watch arrived. I like the ideas of vintage ISO, Tropic and Perlon. I also got some leads on a period correct steel mesh Bulova bracelet. I put it on a 19mm reproduction Seiko rubber waffle strap (shown in photos) because I had one. But....I had such a hard time getting the strap on I am afraid of damaging the watch if I switch it out for some of the others you all suggested (particularly the vintage ISO which is a 20mm and would be more of a squeeze than the 19mm Seiko waffle I installed). So here are photos of the watch on the waffle (shown against a 1969 advertisement for the same watch):
