Strap options for a vintage Rolex
I've been trying for a while to find the right strap for my 50s Rolex 6424, it's 36mm with 20mm lugs.
Hirsch Carbon, too modern
Steveo Vintage leather, great strap but too thick at the lugs, over powers the lugs
Hadley Roma something
I like it on a nato but it's not right
Any suggestions?

Maybe Stewart has some ideas?

I actually think the NATO is great on that piece....

I like the style of the SteveO strap. Have something similar made in an appropriate thickness. Check out the model 2 from Worn & Wound.

Someone on IWL had a grey suede with a minimal stitch like that on a 5513 I think it was. Faded bezel and all. Looked fantastic.CGSshorty wrote:I like the style of the SteveO strap. Have something similar made in an appropriate thickness.

Go Hirsch - Lucca or Heritage, but those are thick.
Or just a regular black croc.
Or Colareb is great as well.

I dig the nato too.
You can go with a thin leather nato.
Check this "Colareb" straps out. I have one for my Speedy and for my Sinn 857 and they are nice straps for the price. Thin at the lugs too:

Bracelet!
Re: Strap options for a vintage Rolex
^^ I had the same 'problem' with my '58 Airking and after finding extra links for the bracelet, which was too short, I put that on and never looked back. The bracelet also makes the watch looks bigger IMO.

Re: Strap options for a vintage Rolex
The vintage minimal stitching but thinner strap would work. In medium brown. Beautiful watch by the way. Maybe check out Hodinkee or Bulang & Sons as they have this style.

I like the Bulang & Sons straps, but I think they're too casual for this piece.
Re: Strap options for a vintage Rolex
I agree with going with the bracelet. It might be difficult or very expensive to find an original riveted bracelet, I don't know. I do know that there are many aftermarket 20mm bracelet options that will fit a Rolex.matt.wu wrote:Bracelet!

Re: Strap options for a vintage Rolex
Thanks for the suggestions and kind comments guys.
I like the idea of black croc but I don't really wear anything that formal, I have a simple black leather that I put on it to go with a suit but if that happens once a year it's a lot!
I like all those vintage straps suggested and will check the thickness, I'm also going to look for a thin leather NATO.
And yes yes yes I'd love a bracelet for it but hate to think what one would cost if I could find one.

Worn & wound cordovan.
Re: Strap options for a vintage Rolex
I like ostrich as an alternate for that. The grain isn't as formal as croc. You can play it both ways very easily.james80 wrote: I like the idea of black croc but I don't really wear anything that formal, I have a simple black leather that I put on it to go with a suit but if that happens once a year it's a lot!

Re: Strap options for a vintage Rolex
I like the vintage style straps on mine. The subs can handle a strap that is thicker.
For yours I suggest finding one that is a single piece of leather and is looped at the lug end. The Worn and Wound straps shown above are made that way and so are the analog/shift straps found here. http://shop.analogshift.com/collections/straps/
Analog shift is nearing the end of this run of straps so inventory is limited and will have new leather and choices in soon.
Hodinkee straps are similar. I have a few of the Colareb straps. I like the leather and craftsmanship from Analog/Shift and Hodinkee better(I own a few of both) but that comes at a higher price.
