Next model type?

I was planning to start at the end of Jan, with the CD-2 replacement, or another model all together.

SD-1

42mm, 51mm lug to lug or a touch less. 14mm thick.
Will have a different dial, maybe the same hand set though, not sure. Appliqués will be different, on the dial also.
Based on the same case as the CD-2, but dial will be bigger, bezel will have black lumed ceramic insert.
Solid back, screw down crown.

Basically taking the CD-2 and refining it somewhat, into a dressier diver, but one that can be used.
No Hev, domed sapphire, 701M WR , usual things.

OR

A square watch, push in crown with crown lock.
43mm , 51mm lug to lug, 701M WR

I am just thinking out loud, as I am looking at CD-1 GMT, Chrono, but it all takes tooling, which =$ and I can only really do one at a time.
Any opinions?

43mm is too big for a square watch.

A square watch would be cool, not a lot of good looking options on the market for those. I agree that a 43mm square would be too big - a 38mm square is the equivalent of a 42/43mm round in terms of wrist real estate

Either way, it's nice to see you're looking ahead Todd. Good luck man

51mm L2L on a 42mm watch seems a little long. Are you stretching the lugs to fit super fat straps or something? If not, 49mm would be more wearable.

The CD-1 and 2 are currently that 50.5

IMO a square watch would limit your customer base. Not too many folks go for the square watches.

Vintage styled internal bezel diver...or maybe something like an updated Scubapro 500 style with raised bezel?

Square watches often look odd on wrists based on pics from
WRUW's and the ones I tried. It's really going to reduce your market base as someone mentioned. I know personally I'll probably never try one again. :)

Id like to see the first option or a CD-1 chrono.

A GMT would be stellar, Todd. Either in CD-1 format or in the new format with a ceramic bezel.

SD -1 sounds good. Would be great to see a bracelet with it, something unique.

Square watch I veto.

I think bell and Ross do some great squares, and without the brand recognition yours would be a tough sale.

A square watch would be cool, there are some companies that do them well. But I agree with others that it may be too unique for many and could hamper sales - especially in the dive watch realm.

FWIW here's a square watch that I could see myself wearing.

I've never seen that one before and it's lovely.

Todd,
The project sounds cool and the case dimensions seem fine...I think. I don't pay too much attention to these specs, so my frame of reference isn't there. If you want to refine the next watch, I say start with the lugs. I borrowed a CD2 to try once and immediately sent it back. I found the lugs detracted from the watch. 24mm width seemed unnecessary and made them look like an after thought, rather than a seamless extension of the case.

I always thought, if you had tapered them better...say down an in and made them 22mm, the presentation would have been beautiful. It is very hard to describe, but, an "S" curve from case to lug, rather than a straight, blocky angle would have probably sealed the deal on a CD@ for me.

I would have never publicly mentioned this, had you not asked. Take it for what it's worth; just my opinion.

BTW: I love GMT watches.

Not to further derail this thread, but DAMN, that is a wicked cool looking watch!

40-41mm, 20mm lugs... TITANIUM... unidirectional countdown bezel. Drop a lemania 5100 movement in it.

Don't you have that already?

Not for long it seems, hence the suggestion. Also, the EZM1 bezel rotates "both ways" (making it better for Ben).
