Aegir update

Post by t20569cald » Mon Dec 24, 2012 6:54 am

First off,

Happy holidays, and hope they bring a good time for all.

So the LE watch straight up, i would like to share an email with you from Mhvj.
It is good news, sort of, in a way it is good, as Christmas for most of us is busy and can be stressful, not to mention very costly.

''Hello Todd, Our company is closed from December 22 to January 07. Movements: different suppliers were late, that’s why we are late now, and we are very disappointed about this situation because our goal was to deliver before Xmas Now, we have all components in internal to start assembly January 07. We’ll deliver 3 first movements January 11 to Thomas Prescher. End of January > 13 movements February > 7 or 8 movements Best regards Régis Ardiet mhvj Manufacture horlogère Vallée de Joux Rue G.H. Piguet 11, CH-1347 Le Sentier Tél. +41 21 845 20 00, Fax. +41 21 845 20 01''

So they should start trickling through early in the New Year. OH, and by the way, I added the touch of ceramic filled markers on the LE bezel while I was waiting, it looks great.

I am also told by Mhvj, they will increase their movement price from now, by 50%!
Not sure if its just me (I have had issues with them, and said so) or if they misjudged costs like I did with this watch and the normal one.
It is a shame, as I was keen to use this movement again, not only in a few extra LE watches, but in the CD-1.
I will attempt to make some deal, but looks likely the 23 LE watches will be just that, 23.

I have tried to sort a very small run of 10 Titanium CD-2 watches to close out the model, but no quote is forthcoming as of yet, only 4 months and 6 or 7 requests, so perhaps ambitious on my side.

At this point, the CD-1 is likely to be built in Australia (Australian case from 316LVM) and the SD-1 (CD-2 replacement) built in Germany, from 316.

2013 will be a big year for Aegir, I have been too accommodating and easy, but 2013 will see 3 new models (including the LE) and retail locations will happen.
No price changes, things will remain the same for at least the full year.

At some point, but not this coming year.
Would take me 7 months min to get the movements as well. Yes, day date, power reserve, chrono, its all coming at some point.
Tourbillon too!

I am making the CD-1 and SD-1 with 2mm bigger dial, so they will wear bigger, and then I can gauge if that is enough, or to start making ginormous watches

Todd, will the issue of leather straps not fitting well be fixed on all future releases. That is the only thisg that stopped me from buying a CD-1.

Already done. I remade the LE cases, moving the lug holes out by 0.3mm, and increasing the overall lug to lug by 0.5mm. It will be this way for all future models. I wanted the tight fit not to have any visible gap, but neglected to consider handmade leather, and considering all Aegir ones are handmade, that was an oversight for sure

The issue is, I am making the CD-1 and the SD-1 now, and they are in 42mm.
If I was to make these both in 44mm straight away as well, there is a lot of tools need producing, and the cost of this is high.
The dial would need 7 new tools alone, then there is the new hand set, and so on.

I have quit the CD-2, and when the last one sells, that will be it. I would consider doing 10 in Ti, but then I am still trying to get a price on that. If that was the case, then still only 85 watches in total produced of the CD-2. I think the CD-2 should end there, and as a first offering, all in all, it will go down a success.

The CD-1 is my pet project, and the SD-1 will be a retail ready version of the CD-2, appealing to a broader market.
Yes, yes, OK, I give in, I will make a 44mm, but first I need revenue to do it, meaning the CD-1 and SD-1 42mm will have to sell.
I could make a 44mm straight off I guess, but if there was limited interest in that, then I can not do the 42mm, which I think the CD-1 will be most popular in that size.
It is hard to make the right choices, and if I had made a 44mm in the CD-2, then heaps of people would say ''if it was 42mm then I would have one''

Thanks - Still hoping to get a LE off the wait list, but....

Post by dmgreen11 » Fri Dec 28, 2012 1:00 pm

alas it appears that is not to be.

No worries - I'll enjoy them from afar once the new happy owners begin to post.

Welcome to DWC, Darren. Not sure if you're unhappy Todd is discontinuing the regular CD-2 (he has plenty left, you know) or miffed you missed out on a LE. Todd, you may want to confirm this, but I thought there were a few leftover CD-2s available with, what, 15?? accounted for? maybe I'm confused. At any rate, hope you stick around, Darren, and enjoy all the perks a membership at DWC has to offer. Well worth the price of admission. ;)

I think I will stick around (and will post some of my divers soon).

By "not meant to be", I meant that I am on the waiting list for the limited edition but it appears only the original orders for the LE are going to be filled. I may consider the standard CD-2, but not sure yet. In any event, I do enjoy seeing them online either way.
