End of production on the CD-2

Post by t20569cald » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:18 am

The decision I have come to, is to end the production of the CD-2, very early on in its life.
This may be disappointing to some, but nice to go out on a high, with a Thomas Prescher made proto and a very exclusive watch as a first offering. You will unlikely meet another person with one on their wrist, and that is a feeling I always liked.

The total number of LE watches, was planned for 50, but after the first 25 watches have been completed in the coming 8 weeks or so, then the remaining people on the list, another 15 or just less, will be given the chance to still have one made if they wish. It will be a lot quicker than the first lot I promise!

The original 35 standard watches will see no more made.
The original 15 LE cases that were revised for different lug hole spacing are being looked at, to make into DLC standard watches with crystal case backs, and this will be the end for the CD-2 model. The expected arrival of those are when the LE is shipped, and when I have more movements, which at the earliest is September for the new A10's.
The price of those will of course be higher, but I plan to sell them for the current price plus the exact cost of the upgrades and not a cent more.
Realistically, those are on the back-burner, until everything else is sailing along, so arrival date is TBA, and will not be soon.

For those who are asking about spare parts, I have many, and considering the limited amount of watches, they will never end. If for some reason I do not have some spare or so, it is not hard to machine, or it it was a Seal/Gasket, they are all fairly standard items and easy for me to get in.

The reasons for all this are vast really, but one of the main driving factors in this, is when the CD-1 is launched, it will be retail ready.
The CD-2 is more of a raw enthusiast type watch and I do not feel it would really suit retail 100%. There will be a replacement of the CD-2 with this point in mind, but any schedule of that is not yet known. There are many other reasons, and the vision was the CD-1, so this is where for now I want to concentrate my time and efforts.
For Aegir to be a success, one of the many things needed to be done, is to go retail. Not in all those cheesy jewelry shores, but rather select little boutiques, that sell nice brands, or independent type brands. I plan to have one local here in Perth Australia, an East Coast US shop, and one in Singapore for a year or so, before looking further afield to the UK and main land Europe.
I have had great support from DWC and its members, as well as the SWX (Singapore Watch Exchange ) and the ability to post of WatchFreeks has been great too. But forums alone, with lack of money for magazine advertising or such, will not be enough to generate sales that will enable Aegir forward with new models and new tech.
The new models will not be watered down, just done differently, to find that point, that appeals to a wider audience.
CD-1 will never change much however.

No mate.
It fits, but the solid is designed to seal with the movement ring, which seals with the dial to make it anti magnetic.
Pointless really, as I decided not to make the dial from Iron, so partly anti magnetic! BUT, this means the crystal one does not seal on the movement ring, by 0.1mm, making some movement in the whole thing when setting time etc.
