CD-1 first dial
First CD-1 dial.
The dial is not intended for production, but rather an exercise in proportion of current tooling, such as appliques.
The production dials will have the date window joined up to the 3 o'clock marker, and the gap was created due to this being a 33mm dial, rather than 30mm of the CD-2.
The final production size most likely will come in at 32mm, but a lot of work needs to be done first before that is finalized.
Works though for size of print tools, and there was one created for this, the minute marker tool, so that will leave only two new tools to make, which will save a lot in time, and some costs too, which will be welcome.
The CD-1 here is not 100% centre either, but then this was never meant to go into a watch, but the info needed has been gained, and as soon as some details are fully worked out, dials will be produced both in black and in white. While we are at it, maybe I will check out a blue option as well. The blue seen here on black, 701M, does not work in real life, so another blue needs to be found to highlight it.
A second hand lume dot will make an appearance on the CD-1, and while this is not needed for its real design purpose, I am happy to make a compromise given the overwhelming number of requests for such a thing. As the dial is bigger than the CD-2, it will be only for the CD-1 and 44mm CD-2 when eventually made, and the current model will not get a lumed second hand.
To contrast on the white dial, the current hands will be looked at, but as has been suggested to me by a forum member, blued hands instead of the rhodium ones currently, would work nicer on the white dial, and I have to agree. It also stays in line with the dressy purpose of this dive watch, so after some renders are done, I am sure that it will be the way to go for white dials.

The white dial looks great Todd. It is good to see progress is being made.

First off , looking good and thanks for the info.A second hand lume dot will make an appearance on the CD-1, and while this is not needed for its real design purpose, I am happy to make a compromise given the overwhelming number of requests for such a thing. But, I quoted this, cause I am probably just reading it wrong, but you said, a second hand lume dot will be on the CD-1 , but then you say at the end the current model will not have a lumed second hand. Are you talking the CD-2?
Also, how far off do you think the 44mm model is ? Next year sometime?

Yes, the current model is the CD-2.tattoo chef wrote:First off , looking good and thanks for the info.A second hand lume dot will make an appearance on the CD-1, and while this is not needed for its real design purpose, I am happy to make a compromise given the overwhelming number of requests for such a thing. See, it never had a lume dot on the second hand, as it was really made with the commercial diver in mind, and being completely honest, he does not need a watch in any way. If he is wearing a watch, then he has a helmet mounted light, and no matter what, that light will show up the watch working. It was conceived with this in mind, and was to look like a diver but not, at the same time. The CD-2 was in fact an after thought, and the only reason it was made first, is the response online to the two renders.
In many ways I regret not doing the CD-1 first, but we have what we have, and that is not a bad thing.
So to make a lumed second hand for the current CD-2, not only takes awhile, and is more tooling, but I am considering not really making anymore of the current 42mm model, in its configuration after using what cases are left, and that is only 15 on top of what stock I already have. The 44mm will be next year yes, and not sure when, to many factors in play at the moment.

Fascinating to be along for the ride, as usual Todd. Love seeing and reading about the updates.

Re: CD-1 first dial
I'm in for one: White dial, CD-1, Sapphire caseback. I'm trying to figure out how I can get on the list.
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.

The blue 701M looks good, but I wonder where you would add the blue accent on the dial if the blue 701M will not be used?t20569cald wrote:. The blue seen here on black, 701M, does not work in real life, so another blue needs to be found to highlight it.

Re: CD-1 first dial
I agree the blue 701 looks great. Maybe a blue tip on the seconds hand?

Re: CD-1 first dial
Would still use the blue 701M and the blue tip on the seconds hand, but not this blue, as while it looks clear in the pictures, it is not the case in real life, so its needs another shade of blue to really work.Axelay2003 wrote:t20569cald wrote:

Re: CD-1 first dial
Wow. Very nice. It'll be nice to have a white dial option, and blued hands will rock the white version!!!
Merde Alors! Et Vive Les Francais!
Re: CD-1 first dial
White dials, although not normally my cuppa, would probably be very cool with blue hands. That might lead me to change my whole opinion. Not matter what, I'm still in for one when they come out.
Re: CD-1 first dial
Nice!
Blue hands a no brainer.
How about gold accents & hands?

Re: CD-1 first dial
I would suggest DLC or black hands like the Explorer II...nice contrast and to the point.
Maybe make the flat surfaces of the indicies black, with beveled edges in polished SS to make it pop.

Let's stop trying to whore up the man's watch with blue and gold hands. This is a tool watch dammit.
