PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
Panerai seems to have recently embraced the blue dial in a big way.

Nope. Would you buy your AP if it didn't have screws in the bezel? Nopelogan2z wrote:So no Radiomirs then.Panerai7 wrote: -No Crown Guard

Re: PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
I like it, but I'm all about the crown guard on Panerai.

Well, an AP without screws in the bezel isn't an AP. A Radiomir is a legitimate PaneraiPanerai7 wrote:Nope. Would you buy your AP if it didn't have screws in the bezel? Nopelogan2z wrote:So no Radiomirs then.Panerai7 wrote: -No Crown Guard

Precisely not, I don't care if you pull out some Panerai Museum piece to show DNA, it's not a Panerai as we all fell in love with and know it by a simple glance on someone's wrist. There are plenty of 3-hander dressy watches with numerals that are better than Panerai
And what do you mean it's not an AP without screws, here's one, except no one is buying it just like no one bought the discontinued 512 and the others (DWC don't count)

Sigh, you know I meant it's not a Royal Oak without the screws in the bezelPanerai7 wrote:..logan2z wrote:Well, an AP without screws in the bezel isn't an AP. I doubt you truly believe that nobody buys Radiomirs (with the possible exception of DWCers) and I'm pretty sure you aren't privy to Panerai's sales data on watches like the 512. PAM232, PAM190, PAM587, etc have all been very successful Rads if forum discussion and used pricing is any indication.
But stick to Luminors if that's your preferred design. The one you personally fell in love with first must be the only true Panerai

To each is own. Crown Guard is a must for me

Re: PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
If we're going to critique this watch for not being true to the Panerai DNA, then I'd agree that the automatic movement and text on the dial are the real offenders. Well, and the blue dial But then a common critique of Panerai is that all of their watches look the same so I guess they need to do something to attract new buyers. Smaller/slimmer cases, different dial colors, etc. seems to be the current strategy.
Re: PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
I spoke to Panerai rep on several occasions that organizes Pam events at my AD and he said that they weren't selling well. I did see them sitting at my AD for months where CG models were rotating and selling. And then the news of them being discontinued led me to conclude that they really weren't selling well.
I personally could live with a 45mm model of it didn't have Automatic on the dial but I'm glad the new Due comes with a CG
Also 673 replacing 587 was a great move, woukd love that one if I went back to 47

I like the 673 a lot. If I didn't already have a 372 I'd be frothing at the mouth for one. I like the 587 a lot too.Panerai7 wrote:I spoke to Panerai rep on several occasions that organizes Pam events at my AD and he said that they weren't selling well. They did so many things right with 673, it's so hard to resist. Too bad it's limited edition and thus will always be priced higher than 372.

Panerai has its fair share of missteps, but when they get it right they get it right.Panerai7 wrote:They did so many things right with 673, it's so hard to resist. Too bad it's limited edition and thus will always be priced higher than 372.

The color combo looks terrific, but ditch the automatic on the dial. Has Panerai ever made a quartz watch? If not, that seems redundant.

They've never made a quartz watch, but they do make many hand-wound watches.streetracer101 wrote:The color combo looks terrific, but ditch the automatic on the dial. Has Panerai ever made a quartz watch? If not, that seems redundant.

I like it well-enough, but it's still generally more of the same...

Re: PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
Well, that's Panerai's dilemma. They're kind of stuck with two watch models so they produce endless variations of them.matt.wu wrote:I like it well-enough, but it's still generally more of the same...
Re: PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
But maybe stuck is not a bad thing.
Instead of removing crown guards off every model and calling it something else, maybe it's okay to stick to a few slam dunks?
Seems to work for AP with the same bezel on every RO watch. Seems to work for Rolex that's notoriously resistant to changes and/or new models. Maybe Pam could introduce 372/422 and 305/389 in a 44mm case instead?
Rather than making 000 005 less WR and spring bars instead of screws. I would love to pick Bonati's brain just to find out where he's coming from

Not exactly what you're looking for, I don't think, but a couple of interesting interviews that provide some insight into the man...Panerai7 wrote:I would love to pick Bonati's brain just to find out where he's coming from

Re: PAM572 Bucherer LE with blue dial
At 45mm, very appealing to the general public. I can't tell from the picture, but a domed sapphire would definitely take it up a notch in my eyes. I like that fact that they kept the 9 with the sub seconds dial. The 690 is my first 1940 Radiomir, and I've been impressed. I get Art's bias. While Panerai is my favorite brand, some models I don't like at all, most I like, but would never buy, and a few I truly lust after. I would love to add two more PAM's to my collection. A Submersible (I REALLY miss my 194), and a 45-47mm, wire lugged Radiomir.

I forgot about that. I'm that case, I'd prefer if it had the movement Calibre it something along that line... Better yet, omit writing there all together.logan2z wrote:They've never made a quartz watch, but they do make many hand-wound watches.streetracer101 wrote:The color combo looks terrific, but ditch the automatic on the dial.
