Basic PAM dial question

Post by mattjmcd » Fri May 22, 2015 8:24 am

Guys. For those of you who have or have had both sandwich and sausage dials: which is more legible?

The sandwich dial seems like the more authentic Panerai aesthetic but I wonder if it's very easy to read when viewed from a low angle. It seems like the printed dial might be more legible and maybe brighter in low light. What say you?

I think both are very legible but I'd give the edge to the painted dial, especially at more severe angles.

And I'd actually say the opposite- the depth of the sandwich dial makes it very legible at all angles

Well clearly you're wrong  j/k

The right answer, as it always is in WISdom, is buy both.

Between the 111 and 000 I owned in the past, I would give the edge to the painted dial. Really only at the sharp angles, however.

Both dials are equal IMO. The crystal curvature has far more impact on legibility. I can practically tell the time on a PAM with my eyes closed

Agree, both equally legible. For me, if it's a 1950 case, I like sandwich, if it's a Bettarini case, I like painted.
