PAM 243, 24 or 25.... Which one and why?

Post by PGERRITY » Wed Mar 26, 2014 8:07 pm

I'm looking at getting into a PAM when this whole house buying thing clears up, and I love the subs. So many here have had each one of these, so I'd like to hear opinions as to which one is the best and why! Let's hear it!

My favorite for my 6.5" wrist is probably the 25.

25 is the most comfortable
243 is the coolest but the heaviest
24 is in between

I've had the 24 and the 243, both great, but the 243 has attitude.

243 is a one trick pony, so if it is going to be part of a varied collection that is the way I'd go. 024 or 025 if you don't have much else.

243 seems like it's the tank of the three, in terms of dimensions and movement are they basically the same?

Same movement and diameter but wear vastly different. I'd agree with art's assessment. The 243's a beast to wear. 24 is cheapest. And 25 is my favorite especially with textured dial.

243 is my choice mostly due to the fact that it feels like it's indestructible..its just a badass looking PAM...i do agree though that if your collection has enough other stuff that you can commit to a bruiser like this, 243 is the ticket..

243 is the most special, but it is a beast on the wrist. I honestly didn't love wearing it as a result.

I got the 24 because I wanted polished. The A-C series were polished. I do love looking at the 243, but have never seen one in person, so couldn't comment. The 106 may be worth considering too. rob had one that I was really impressed with.

IMO the 243 is the best sub Panerai ever made. As others have said, it's special but a beast to wear; which is why mine left also. Maybe have a look at the 305, much lighter and has an in- house movement too.

I'm with Zak, of those three the 25 is my favorite. The 25 is the only Panerai I have owned. If the 24 were not polished, I might feel different. The 243 did nothing for me and wears different that the other two.

BTW: I loved the OEM nylon strap.

243 T dial is my 2nd favorite PAM of nearly a dozen I've owned (233 FTW) - 106 is a cool piece too but a pretty rate bird so if you like it you better be ready to pull the trigger the second you see a good one come up...

I read somewhere that the 25 actually wears the biggest out of these, but it seems like the 243 does according to the responses. Now I'll have to add the 106 to the contenders, that's pretty cool

25/24 has a larger dial opening vs bezel as oppose to 243. So it might appear larger on the wrist.
However 25 being Ti feels like it weighs 1/2 of 243.
Also 243 is based on 1950 case so it sits taller on the wrist

Had a 24A and really liked it. I wanted the polished bezel and the tritium dial. Not as light as the 25 but I still found it very comfortable. Haven't tried a 243, which I felt would be out of my comfort range with a 6.75 wrist.

Hmm.. I think 243 it is, I don't mind heavy watches. I should be good to buy around the second week of May if anyone wants to move one!!

243 wears large, but I find it the most interesting. A 44mm 305 would be my perfect sub.

Agreed, I tried on a 47mm and it was just too big. 44 seems perfect.
