Jumping back in
I used to own the 312 and have recently decided that I would like to own a PAM again and was thinking about grabbing one. However, the 233 has really caught my eye but that's a big step up in price. For those that have owned or had the opportunity to handle both, is the 233 worth the extra over the 312? I know it's subjective but would appreciate any thoughts. Also what a fair price these days for a am/pm model 233 with box and papers? Looks to be around $9000?
Can't wait to get either one - got some nice straps waiting.

Personally, if you are not tied to the 1950 case, I would look at the new 8-day base models (replacing the 111 & 112) first, as may be more cost effective than either the 312 or the 233.

Re: Jumping back in
I do like the 1950s case but that's a good idea. I've read a little bit about them, specifically the 510 I think. Not sure I'm a fan of the polished case/brushed crown guard combo on that one. Still, a great way to get the hand wound 8- day movement without the GMT complication.tmw wrote:Personally, if you are not tied to the 1950 case, I would look at the new 8-day base models (replacing the 111 & 112) first, as may be more cost effective than either the 312 or the 233.

I cant believe I used the words 'cost effective' referencing anything Panerai.

Re: Jumping back in
I think the 233 is well worth the premium over the 312, but I like base PAMs the best. The new 8-day Luminors are about the same price as a used 372, which would be my choice. Otherwise, I'd actually think hard about a good ol' 000.
Re: Jumping back in
I personally don't care at all for the standard Luminor case. The 1950 case, on the other hand, really grabs me.
So 233 for me. Every time.

233 and 270 all day everyday. They're by far my favorite Panerais.
I've had a 510, it's a POS. An 8 day without a power reserve movement effectively may as well be a 1.5 day movement to me. Stupid decision by Paneari IMO.

Why not the 320? It seems to be more an apple to apple comparison. I am a huge 320 fan and have pondered the 233 vs. 320 question more than once. For me, aesthetics draws me to the 320. And, it's almost purely due to the crystal.

Valid point D. If the 233/270 had a flat crystal, they would be perfect IMO. But I'll even live with the dome.lilhoody wrote:Why not the 320? It seems to be more an apple to apple comparison. Re: Jumping back in
after trying on many different models, i started out with a 312. i later moved it for a 233. my experience was the exact opposite of regret. thinner, lighter, sexier.
the gmt hand can be hidden underneath the hour hand for a cleaner look if and when desired.
if i own another pam it will most likely be another 233.
good luck with your decision and search.

Re: Jumping back in
Thank you - appreciate the comments. Still thinking about it but leaning towards the 312. I think later, when the budget allows, I can sell and grab the 233 if I still want it.
Re: Jumping back in
I actually kind of like the 510. Wish it had a logo dial though with painted markers.blkgsl wrote:233 and 270 all day everyday. They're by far my favorite Panerais.

If they "redo" the 005, I'm in. But I'm done paying $5k for a watch with a stock 6497 movement.
Now I'm on either a 312 or a 422 kick.

Re: Jumping back in
I still think that at around $7K used, a 372 is unbeatable. I'd take one over many PAMs that cost a lot more.

Love the looks of the 372. The only things that concerns me on the 372 are the plexiglass and that I've never worn a 47mm watch before.dukerules wrote:I still think that at around $7K used, a 372 is unbeatable. I'd take one over many PAMs that cost a lot more.
Starting to look at the 243 more and more. 312, 243, 327, 233… not a bad lineup!

Re: Jumping back in
What's a fair price for a pre-owned 233 with the dot dial (great condition with b and p)? The am/pm seems to be at the high 8s while the dot seems to be at least a grand more?
Re: Jumping back in
I wouldn't pay more than $9K.

Re: Jumping back in
Thanks, that's what I was thinking it should go for but watches24seven has one listed right now at $10250. Obviously negotiable but seems pretty high to get down to where I think it should sell.dukerules wrote:I wouldn't pay more than $9K.
Re: Jumping back in
Bruce's prices are always high. Check Paneristi and recon...I think you can find these in the $8 range easily.
