I need quick Panerai brain trust opinion on a price

Post by Henryj » Mon Nov 11, 2013 11:39 am

I was just called by a Panerai AD offering me $1000 off on a new PAM 088 GMT, MSRP $8400. He'll include overnight shipping to my home in Ohio. Is ~12% a good deal from an AD?

Here's a point of reference from one of the trusted TRF dealers. You decide but I think you can do better than 12%

Here's a more recent posting:

He's offering it for $7,100 BNIB. I doubt you'll regret passing on $1,000 off.

On edit: I just saw the Nov 1 Bump on the TRF thread. I'd probably just buy that one if you want to pick one up immediately.

If I was buying an 088 I would definitely buy used. It is an older model that is not at all in demand, so buying used will save you a substantial amount. If you have to have a new one you won't do much better than 12%, but I would hold out for 15%.

I see your points, but I guess I have to ask about warranty coverage.

:1: used. LOTS cheaper than 12% off MSRP. Even can factor full price of a service into it without coming close.

Tell him to throw in an extra strap at that price and you have a good deal.

+1 to what everyone has said FOR ME, but it really depends on your piece of mind. Some people don't mind sacrificing warranty coverage, AD relationships, and newer stock to save some money. Typically, the grey market stuff is a year or two older and approx. 20% off. Did your AD indicate whether or not it is a "P" serial?

No black card man - I can't justify $2.5k annual fee for a freaking credit card. Great for flossing and fronting, but not for me. I use a Costco AMEX hahahaha - 0 annual fee, 3% dining out, 2% travel, 1% everything else :).
Hahaha, my favorite card as well, small world, no Lambo though :)

Sounds like it's not a great deal, but I want to know how I get AD's to just call me and offer me discounts on watches.

Stuff a sock down your pants (in the front, not a mistake I'll make twice) and talk to the youngest, prettiest sales girl in the place.

Seriously, I was surprised by the call, we filled out a contact card when we were in there. My thing on this is that I really want to go new, this would be a special occasion watch with my wife's blessing and involvement.

The link I posted above is for the BNIB with your name on the card and AD Stamp, it is exactly like buying from and AD 'cause you're basically buying from an AD. I wouldn't worry about it, it's not a Rolex when they give you deep cavity search before Rolex will honor warranty.
