I know. They are great. Yet if I'm gonna buy another Porsche it'll be a manual, I won't even have think about it.
+1

A friend just bought a 2014 Carrera S with the PDK. Hard to fault it but I still prefer the manual gearbox. Just more fun to drive - at least when you're not in traffic.
This, I don't know where you guys live but i would hate to drive a manual Porsche in traffic. I do love the feel of driving a stick but 70% I would rather have a auto. And the way traffic is these days I will stick with a auto.
This kind of proves the point. You would love the authentic experience, but it is a pain in the ass so you buy the consumer version.

Driving a Porsche in traffic is like hitching a thoroughbred to a milk wagon anyway.

Manual Porsches and Manual watches are for guys to constantly have to have their hands moving to avoid pulling one of these:

LOL, good job Eric :stir:

I guess I don't jerk off enough to keep an automatic Pam going, so I'll stick with manual-wind versions

So automatic watches aren't what "Panerai is all about?" Thank goodness the Internet is here to tell me these things. :raised:

For now. It looks like all of the current models are being phased out in favor of the new in-house hand wind movement.

The 112 was my first, and that's where I'd recommend starting: sandwich dial, Base (i.e. no sub seconds, date or other such nonsense) and a decorated Unitas under glass (you paid your money, so why not enjoy looking at the fruits of your labor?).

Otherwise, the Zero is where it's at.

Regards,
Adam

PS - With the exception of the Submersibles -- and then, only the 243 -- automatic PAMs do absolutely nothing for me.

111G was my first Panerai. Absolutely loved it. Reasons that I went with it over other entry level models: Sub second hands. I'm not anal about much, but I do want a second hand on any non-quartz watch. Also, the caseback. THough it a pretty pedestrian movement, Panerai does a damn good job, imo, of decorating it. Not all 111 have a sandwich dial; there were two or three series with the sausage. Here's a diagram to show some of the variations of the various series.

And the movement

And the 243 truly does rock. My thanks to all who pointed me in that direction also. And to Roger for his timely sale.
