PAM 510
Re: PAM 510
I wish the movement was more exciting to look at.

Re: PAM 510
There's nothing to look at, they should go back to solid casebacks on most of the 300m+ models.
Re: PAM 510
I like it. I want a base Panerai or something with an in-house movement when I add a Panerai to the collection. This hits both for me at a decent price. (Sad to state the last part but with an I house and recent prices it is true)

I like how open the caseback is.
Re: PAM 510
Nice!!! This looks great.
Now, for the same movement in a 44mm 1950's sub case with no cyclops.

Has there ever been a manual wind Sub?matt.wu wrote:Nice!!! This looks great.

Not that I know of, but with an 8-day movement, put manual wind in anything for all I care!CGSshorty wrote:Has there ever been a manual wind Sub?matt.wu wrote:Nice!!! This looks great.

Great looking watch and Im usually not a fan of a pure mechanical, but it is very nice.
Just (for me) at this point, they are being priced way out of my reach. At least for a few years for myself anyways.

Re: PAM 510
I haven't followed PAM pricing too closely the last few years, but if that's close to the price of the 111 then the ETA-based models have gone WAY up. I only paid a little more than 1/2 that for my 111 five years ago.

They have gone crazy. A 000 is around $5k now.logan2z wrote:I haven't followed PAM pricing too closely the last few years, but if that's close to the price of the 111 then the ETA-based models have gone WAY up. I only paid a little more than 1/2 that for my 111 five years ago.

Re: PAM 510
I like it a lot! I love my 111, but I don't think I'd pay what they are asking for a new one now. I got my 111 about 5 years ago and paid $4200 for it and the dealer threw in 2 extra factory Panerai straps in the deal. My 111 is a keeper and a watch I don't think I'll ever get rid of!

Is there any logic to the model numbers? #cluelessaboutpanarai

Re: PAM 510
None that I am aware of, but I would guess there might be some reason for it inside Panerai. Similar models usually have sequential numbers. 111 and 112 are both Luminors in SS cases with display back and sandwich dials. The only difference is 112 lacks a seconds hand. Same for 176 and 177, but in titanium. There are a few others like this.moishlashen wrote:Is there any logic to the model numbers? #cluelessaboutpanarai

Re: PAM 510
I'm not a fan of the brand, but a 10% increase in price for an inhouse movement is extremely reasonable.
Re: PAM 510
Agreed, very reasonable, however I'm not sure I would pay that much for a new movement. Remember the first couple of years of headaches with P.9000.JP Chestnut wrote:I'm not a fan of the brand, but a 10% increase in price for an inhouse movement is extremely reasonable.
And again there's not much to look at, put a normal steel case back on
Re: PAM 510
It's also, perhaps, an indicator of how unreasonable the price was for a Unitas movement.JP Chestnut wrote:I'm not a fan of the brand, but a 10% increase in price for an inhouse movement is extremely reasonable.

I somehow rationalized $4K for my 111 when I bought, but over $6K? No way, that's getting into serious watch territory.

That's totally true Matt.matt.wu wrote:It's also, perhaps, an indicator of how unreasonable the price was for a Unitas movement.JP Chestnut wrote:I'm not a fan of the brand, but a 10% increase in price for an inhouse movement is extremely reasonable.
Re: PAM 510
I'm a HUGE Panerai fan, but their pricing/distribution model flat-out pisses me off. If the base historic models were in the 3-4K range they would be priced high, but accordingly IMO. Regarding the 510 (which, esthetically, I like very much) for example: I can't think of another company with an 8 day (or better) movement for less than 10K. BUT, it doesn't make sense considering that they price all of their 3 day watches, both automatic, and manual wind from 7-12K.JP Chestnut wrote:That's totally true Matt.matt.wu wrote:It's also, perhaps, an indicator of how unreasonable the price was for a Unitas movement.JP Chestnut wrote:I'm not a fan of the brand, but a 10% increase in price for an inhouse movement is extremely reasonable.
Re: PAM 510
HW 8 day movement, in a classic and iconic design. Really a reason to celebrate. A great combination, come on, I mean who even makes this watch?!? Right, no one.

Re: PAM 510
I just read that his movement does not have a hacking seconds function. That is disappointing IMO.
