Anyone had any experience with the Panerai Service Center?

Post by caesarmascetti » Sat Feb 16, 2013 4:59 am

Just took a 305 to Tourneau yesterday, and the watchmaker (little old man gray hair, mustache) comes out looks like a watch maker takes the watch in the back. He comes out a few minutes later and says the movement needs work. The watch is under warranty till April, I was told 4-6 weeks. I'm not the original owner, and it's being shipped to NY. Anyone had any experience with this?? Would love to hear how it went

Is he shipping it to Panerai or to Tourneau's service center in NY?...

I thought Panerai serviced out of Dallas...

I'd have Tourneau send it in and track it...

Though I guess the plus side is they're going over it before the warranty expires so I should be good to go for awhile

When I had hoped to get service out of Panerai, they sent the watch (PAM 040) to Texas. The problem was that they weren't "accommodating" in terms of acknowledging that this particular watch was a collectable piece. With that, they wanted to change hands and dial and on and on, when what I needed was to keep the watch as original as possible. They wouldn't relent. I had them send it back.

They're not a bad service center, I've never had a bad experience with them frankly.

@Rick - I hear ya on that, a lot of watch service centers won't keep old dials/hands in there if they deem them "no good", Rolex included. That's why red Submariners are getting more and more rare and command such a premium. I wish they would be more understanding about these things for collectors.
Sometimes, Luminova service dials are pretty cool though, especially with the red text. :)
