Case Refinish

Post by koda240 » Tue Feb 12, 2013 9:58 pm

Any of you had your PAM refinished? Good results? Bad?

I'm asking because my 243 needs it. I had a fellow DWC'er notice that the dots on my bezel are a bit more rounded than they should be. I believe it's from sloppy polishing at the jewelry store. Either way, I want the case as close to perfect as possible.

What have you experienced?

The only way you're going to get something that's been over-polished sharp again is by replacing it. And that would be Panerai who would do that.

And it'd probably be expensive.

I say enjoy it as is for now. :)

Matt is right. That bezel is not cheap and I don't think they will replace just the markers for you. I wouldn't do anything until the watch needs a full service and then have everything done.

I had the bezel on my 24 replaced and the case refinished by Panerai (through Tourneau).

I don't recall the cost, but it was less than expected and worth the expense.

Any idea on what PAM charges for a full service?

Sorry I don't. I am sure it would be quite a bit more for a 243 than my 000 anyway.

I can't tell from your pic. but if it's a tritium dialed version of the 243, Panerai will want to replace the dial and hands with luminova parts. I do believe you can ask those parts not be replaced.

A moment of silence please, my 243 is now in the hands of an AD being shipped to Dallas (panerai US service) but AD thinks it will likely have to go to across the pond. Super bummed since i'll probably end up without it for 3 months and a huge service bill. Wish i didnt love that damn watch so much. It's the only keeper i've had for many years.

Good news: My PAM will be serviced in the US so I will have it back in 4-5 weeks.
Bad news: The damn bill is going to be $1037.

about this much (maybe more now  )

That's actually a lot less that I'd expect for a service, refinish, dial, and bezel - especially from Panerai!

I hope yours doesn't come back with a thumbprint under the crystal, like mine did. One the return trip (to have that thumbprint removed) mine came back on someone else's worn out leather strap with generic buckle - even though I sent in in on the long rubber strap with historic buckle. Not a great experience.
On the other hand, I only paid $150 for a refinish on that 112.

I'd have kept. Watch had character. Did it need a full service?

But it'll be like a brand new watch now

At least we know that OP charges less for a crystal than Kobold.
