Strap for my 243

Post by koda240 » Sat Dec 01, 2012 7:39 am

Just got my 243 yesterday. It came in pre owned to my AD so I snagged it. Unfortunately the rubber that came with it isn't the best. Need to get a new one. For now enjoying the nylon. Any of you have any straps for a PAM you don't want that aren't too pricey? I'm gonna get one made eventually but really don't have time to do it right now. I can see myself deliberating over it for a month. Lol.

Let me know guys. Thanks.

Man, I just sold two great Diaboliq straps, which I had known.
I don't wear mine on rubber but it did look good on the stock rubber./

I much prefer it on Drew or Diaboliq canvas though, and brown leather. Joe at SNPR made me two awesome straps for the 243, one is his Patriot the other a custom extra thick Buffalo with stitched in zulu hardware that is just amazing!
I highly recommend his straps. Jossip makes real nice straps too, love both these guys.
Kain Heritage straps are very affordable too and come with incredible presentation that seem to cost more than the straps! :)

I have a composite Maratac strap I am not using, 24mm

Yeah, the stock rubber strap is meh. Almost any strap looks great on a 243. Regarding the rubber strap, buy an Isofrane. What's your wrist size?

This was my favorite 243 strap.

Those are some bad ass straps you guys are posting. I want em all. :)

This is silly question but when providing wrist measurements do you typically give the actual wrist size itself or the ideal size a strap should be? Obviously a strap needs a little play. Input is appreciated so I don't buy the wrong thing.

It is important to know what size strap you like before you order. I am picky and tell my strapmakers exactly where I want the holes punched. This is actually more important than the length of the strap. If you tell me your wrist size and whether you like your straps to have extra tail or not I can give you a guess as to what size you will like.

I provide my wrist size, length I want for both pieces of the strap, what distance I want the first hole at...
and length may also depends on your taste.. I like a long ...uh.. tail on mine :)

Must haves for me on the 243 are a black Isofrane and a Drew and/or Micah canvas (or two). You need to decide if you like it on leather or not...if you do, well welcome to the crazy world of PAM straps.

funny thing is I love Isofrane straps and have stuck them on pretty much all my watches and the 243 is the one I thought it looked the worse on, not bad but not great. I actually even preferred the stock rubber.

PLaying with leather straps on the 243 is just SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!! :)

Canvas IS indeed a MUST HAVE!!!

Zuegma and the strapsmith are some of my fav. TedSu is killing it too.
I've owned a Delaurian strap also - Awesome. Most of his strap styles are too funky for me though... but top-notch quality all the way.

Zeugma and Delaurian are my absolute favorites ...

On special request, Shane@Delaurian will make you a 'more normal' strap but I am a fan of his imagination and creativity.

There is no second to the textures you will find among Zeugma straps. Look here ...

Ted Su and GSD provide excellent dependability but are a touch over-priced IMHO. Rob Montana aka Strap-Smith is right up there as well.

Honest to God, this is the only reason preventing me from jumping into a trade of my 243 for a MCDC.  ;)

I didn't love the Isofrane on the 243 either. It was comfortable but I didn't think it looked great. I preferred the OEM rubber even though it is not as comfortable.

Agree with TedSu and GSD but I think most of the well-known strap-makers are charging way too much, even some of the new guys are charging $200+ :raised:
You are right about that Drew. I am very picky about who I will give that much money to because I am so critical about things like stitching and holes being punched in a straight line. I wouldn't give 90% of these guys a dime of my hard earned money.

Yeah, they're all so damn expensive. I've cut way back on my strap buying as a result. There's a guy around these parts, though, who makes great straps, charges very fair prices, and hopefully will be making some 26mm leather straps for my 372 soon.
