Rolex is not much easier.
Rolex has a consistency that I've yet to understand in PAM models. It's fairly clear that the 16660, 16600, and 116600 have something in common. Is ever PAM Sub a 2XX for instance? It could be, I really don't know.

At least Panerai use semi-comprehensible model numbers. How about the AP 15703ST.OO.A002CA.01?
Is that a RO of some sort? I helped a buddy get a RG model - it was a nightmare to figure out which one of the 10 similar models was the one he actually wanted.

Yes, it's this one:

Nice watch but do they actually expect someone to walk into an AD and ask for this by model number?

At least with that you can say "black dial diver". What are you going to say about the pam? "I want the one with the crown guard, no date or second hand, and with the painted on numbers? Also, with that other logo but I forget what it's called". I bet there's some important descriptive I'm missing on the 000 because I don't know about PAMs. They're daunting for an outsider.

No, you say "I want the 000" because you looked up the watch you want on the internet and can remember a 3 digit model number. It's also commonly referred to as "the base logo".

To say Panerai model designations are more difficult than other brands is just silly. Three numbers are pretty easy to remember.

I think it's the sheer number of PAM models that makes it confusing, along with the fact that there is no logic to the assignment of the numbers. It's not that three numbers are hard to remember, it's which three to remember.
