Newbie question on the Planet Ocean Series

Pardon my ignorance, but I've been struggling to find some info on bezel diameters for the various iterations of the Planet Ocean. Maybe I'm wrong, but the bezel appears slightly smaller than the case on most (if not all) of the Planet Oceans.

Personally would love to see everyone start quoting Bezel diameters, L2L, and even Dial diameter since in my experience these are the most important measurements as to how a watch looks on my wrist. Who the hell cares about case diameter anyways??

my digital calipers on my 8500 say 40.6mm for the bezel.

Awesome - thanks! So if I'm looking for a bezel diameter around 42mm looks like I need to look at the larger models. All the 43.5 models are pretty tall watches, aren't they?

The original 45.5 mm 2500 series PO wears large and relatively flat for its size. I always thought the bezel diameter made it feel about 43.5 on my wrist.

The 45.5 mm 8500 is definitely on the thicker side, about 17mm as I recall. Think Deepsea Seadweller.

The newest 43.5 mm 8900 series PO is thinner than the 8500 series, but still a little chunky. With its bezel it wears about like a 42mm piece to me. For my money it’s the best yet.

They might be tall but L2L is reasonable even for a smaller 6.75-7" wrist...

The 45.5mm PO 2500 series is the most wearable large watch (44mm or larger) that I have ever owned. And I’ve owned pretty much everything larger than 40mm under $20k.

You definitely can. Many people with wrists smaller than yours have and still do wear that, and much larger, thicker watches.

Thanks, but I think it's going to be a little small for my taste based on the above discussion. Probably need to save up for the 43.5.

it really comes down to what you like.

personally my 42mm 8500 is as big as i'd go on my 7.25 wrist. the only exceptions i've found are the U1, which still feels a little heavy but it wears smaller than it's case size because of the lugs, and the seiko turtle.

Agreed, mine wears very well on my 7" wrist.

Nope, not with the 8500 movement thickness imo. I find the 42 8500 most comfortable, and I’m around 7-7.25 right now.

The 2500 wears much differently than the 8500. Less thick/tall, and obviously less top heavy.

In a similar way, the SD43 wears much better than the DeepSea does. Nearly the same watch, but one is much thicker and heavier than the other.

I agree, the 42mm PO 8500 reminds me of a bit larger Sea Dweller.

The 43.5 PO 8900 has different end links and wears about the same as the 42/8500 height wise, but it’s got a bit larger footprint.

FWIW- the 42mm 8500 has 20mm lugs, the 45.5 PO’s all have 22mm lugs, and the 43.5 has oddball 21mm lugs. If you plan to swap straps and such that may matter. If wearing solely on bracelet, my pick remains the 43.5. In blue.

Just for reference, this is what a 42mm 2500D looks like on a 7.75" wrist. I've owned a PO xl 2500D and an 8500 xl and prefer the smaller model.

I wear the 45.5 2500 regularly on my 7.5 wrist with no problem. Have for over 10 years. Should work for you.

I've seen different specs for the 42mm/2500 that have the thickness anywhere from 14mm to 15.5. I don't have calipers, but using a ruler, it looks less than 14mm.

The 8500 is significantly thicker (think Rolex DeepSea), and the 2500 is about as think as a standard Seiko diver.

honestly, it doesn't feel that bad when i compare it to other 42ish mm divers.
