Speedmaster Reduced

Post by deepcdvr » Mon Mar 04, 2019 7:33 pm

Thoughts?

Love the speedy pro (I’ve had 3 or 4) and seriously jonesing for another, but since they used to cost 2300 bucks not that long ago and have now exponentially increased in price, I’m thinking of picking up a reduced version.

I have a 7” wrists so the size seems fine, but does anyone here either own one or have experience good or bad with that model?

I’ve watched a dozen videos on the reduced and opinions are all over the map ;)

Thanks in advance!

Wears very differently than the 42mm Speedy Pro, so I'd try before buying.

The dial layout looks off to my eye. I'd save for the real deal.

That movement is a mofo to get serviced. And if I recall it can cost around 700-850, you have replace the Chrono module in it. Since the module is not serviceable

Hmm lots to think about... I had heard about the service drama

I actually like the dial

I would want the latest version without the Arabic numbers - after a quick search, that model is rare on the sales forums and costs just a few hundred less than the pro

They've gotten quite a bit more expensive since I bought one a few years ago. It's a fine watch in its own right but, from personal experience, it won't scratch the Speedy Pro itch. The bracelet that came on mine was a hair puller, too.

I can't wait to get one in though for service. I bet the module might be easy to service. Maybe the manufacturer can get the module at such a low cost it isn't feasible for them to service? Which might be the case.

I had it serviced once by omega NYC and the cost was $600
Real world facts right there. 600 is a great price.

Costs of everything watch related has increased in the last few years. When was it $600? That’s important info.

Lots of interesting dial option with the "reduced"/auto format.

I had one briefly and didn’t like it at all. Felt odd on my wrist and I didn’t care for the rotor noise.

I usually favor smaller watches, but I agree with JP. Dial proportions look odd on the reduced.

Subdials are pushed too far to the left and right, so you end up with unused space in the middle of the dial, around the base of the hands. Plus I dont like the minutes track.

Just sent my Speedy Pro for service at Nesbit. $850 and that was about half what Omega quoted so I'm happy with the price. It's a 1992 watch and I believe this is the first or second service so keep that in mind for budget. Great watch though. I wear it for dressier occasions far more than my SD4K.
