Omega Calibre 321 is back in production

Not sure if that matters, because I'm not a big Speedmaster fan, but they posted it on Instagram.

The Speedmaster junkies are going to flip out (in a good way). I imagine Omega will introduce something close in time to Baselworld since Swatch Group won't actually be there.

However...

"Raynald Aeschlimann, CEO of Omega, said, “It’s amazing that so many people are passionate about the Calibre 321. We produced the last one in 1968 and fans have never stopped talking about it. That shows how special it is. We’re very excited to finally meet their wishes and have gone to great efforts to bring the movement back.”

This movement will not be used in a limited edition watch, but there will be a limitation in production for the reasons stated above. Omega reveiled that there will be something in gold, for sure. Also, this movement will not be used in any of the upcoming Apollo 11 Limited Edition models in 2019."

I think I see where they are going. Maybe this ends up as a heritage model in regular production, limited only because it will be a "halo" model and significantly more expensive than a Speedy Pro standard.

I see a 105.012 reissue for the 50th anniversary. I suspect it will be incredible.

Well, looks like it's not going in a 50th anniversary LE, which I would've bet money was going to be a 105.012 reissue... Maybe they'll reissue a 105.003 Ed White with this movement. Interesting.

I saw that all over social media today, but don’t understand the excitement. Congrats, you’re releasing an old movement?

But fans have been talking about it since 1968! And that shows just how special it is.

It's the history of the movement, how it was used (not just by Omega), and of course the near mythical status it's attained due to its association with the NASA space program. Speedy fanboys are drooling through their screens.

But the 861/1861 is just as good a movement and cheaper to manufacture, which is why Omega switched in the first place. It also beats at a higher rate.

Omega is going to stick the 321 into some sort of Speedmaster and charge double for it. That's the bottom line (i.e. the bottom line).

The watch industry needs a greater diversity of movements. I don’t care about the 321, but I’m sure a bunch of other people do.

They stick a cartoon character on a Speedy Pro and charge triple. No different really

Yes, but it's an historically significant cartoon character ;)

A bit exciting but it won’t matter as it’ll be unobtanium for someone like me.

Omega is smart. They know some morons will pay big bucks to get their hands on this. So why not profit from them? Seems like a no brainer. As long as there are people that will pay, this will continue to get more outrageous. Who knows, next it will be a dial made of moon rock with the underwear material from Buzz Aldrin for the strap and a sock from the moonwalk for the box with an MSRP of $100K.

I wonder if Bremont has done this yet? Or maybe redbar?

Archie Luxury posted a video a while back telling Omega to bring it back - he must have some serious clout

Yep.

And this common folk can name the astronaut of every mission from Mercury to Apollo 17. I seriously doubt the target customer for this watch would get close.
