Thinking of trying the 43.5mm 8900 PO

Post by sierra11b » Sun Oct 28, 2018 10:13 am

Sold the 114270 here and not being able to try the 214270 is finally taking its toll now that I have money to burn. According to the three local Rolex ADs they won't be getting any for the remainder of the year for certain. I realize the 43.5mm is a monster compared to the Exp39, but at least I can try it on and appreciate the technology as superior. Might be time for me to try a big diver.

So I went to the OB in Roseville, CA thinking I would be set on the 39.5mm with my 6.5" wrists but ended-up liking the 43.5mm a lot more. The 39.5mm looked terrible on my wrist so when I got home I immediately used a some butchers twine to remeasure my wrist. Apparently my wrist is closer to 7.5" but I thought it was 6.5" all these years!

The 39.5mm was in blue and I didn't even bother taking a picture.

The only two 43.5mm they had on bracelet were the orange/black and black, but I think I'll try for the blue 43.5mm even though the orange was really great in person. Just think the novelty of it would wear off and I don't like the idea of the rubber orange insert.

Torn between blue and black.

There's a good deal on WUS for a black currently.

The 43.5's seem to have better balance. I didn't like the 39.5 and I have a 6.75" wrist.. Blue is a good choice.

I’m just waiting for the 42.25 version to come out that is 12.42 thick with a L2L of 48.33 and a weight of 102.567 grams.

That's funny, because before I read that I looked at the photos and thought to myself "there's no way that's a 6.5 inch wrist!". The 43.5 looks good on you. The 45mm 2500D would work well too.

I think Matt is right, but you know you best.

I’m think as much as you liked the IWCs you had, the 214270 will wear the same but slightly more elegant, while remaining durable. It’s really the perfect one-watch, maybe with a Seiko on nato for a beater.

I wish I’d kept both of my 214270’s - now I can’t get one from my AD. It felt a touch small on my 8” wrist, but it’s a wonderful watch.

I agree with Matt and Hop. You are always going to wonder about the 214270.

It’s an amazing watch, pretty much perfect (to me) and it made me love NATOs. I certainly regret selling mine, but I knew I would and preferred to use the money for another hobby at the time. I’ll have another one eventually. That and my sub is the perfect two watch duo for me.

The IWCs were certainly nice while they lasted, but I really enjoyed the PO. I really fell in love with the look, weight, and have always enjoyed the tech behind the lastest movements.

I do wear my wife’s DJ36 from time to time as she hasn’t given it the wrist time it deserves since getting a big promotion recently. She doesn’t want to be “that guy” in the office. Crazy but it is what it is and she has no plans of giving up Rolex.

With a dornbluth 99.1, Pogue, and Speedy in rotation it was the smaller watches which were out of place.

Based on that, skip the 8900 and buy the 2500d 42mm that is on Recon (WUS) while it’s still here. I’ve done deals with the seller and he’s legit. He might consider a reasonable offer too, but price is fair since it just had a factory service.

Buy the two bracelet-clasp end links and the Omega adjustable clasp, then you will have the perfect PO. Thinner, arguably cooler, and likely to increase in value.

I’ve owned every version of the PO and I say this with experience.

Thanks. Pretty excited.

Lots of saved vacation so decided to take the day off waiting for her. Maybe whip-up a nice dinner as well while waiting.

Really nice choice. I tried a blue 43.5 8900 on today.
It was fantastic and really thinking about this watch now.
More so than the 5 line Pelagos.

How do you like your PO? I was considering a blue one but ordered a black one today.
