2500 C

Post by MDF » Tue May 02, 2017 4:04 pm

Anyone know how messed up this movement actually is? Is it super stupid to buy one figuring if there is a problem Omega would fix it and replace the defective part with a new improved part. Or should I just wait for a 2500 D to show up and pay over a grand more for the watch? Just wanted some advice for down the road. Thanks!
Regards,

Mark

Lots of info on WUS about this, but in short;

When Omega services the "C" they replace a part and it helps. The movement problems are not as big a deal as it sounds, as some have stopped but most are fine. There were rumors that the oiling specs were incorrect (when new) but are revised now.

I would prefer the 3-level escapement of the "D" but wouldn't less a "C" pass by if it were a good deal.

I've had five or six "C" movements (lost count) and two "D"' movements; one of each now currently. No issues with either. D is better but not something I'd lose any sleep over.

Wildly overblown issue, that said mine stopped at 4 years from purchase. Was gray market though so may have been older. Nesbits corrected with the service as Hoppy said. I would be more concerned about service history than C vs D. They have been out of production long enough they all should have been serviced once by now.

This means very little without knowing the total number you've owned!

Mine stopped but I send it to Nesbits and they dealt with it. Happy with mine, would not pay more just because it's a D.

I hear it's overblown but then I read that quite a few have stopped

Sounds like a lottery draw when purchasing an unserviced C movement

I think you have three choices:

1) Buy a 'C' that's been serviced and brought up to snuff.
2) Buy an unserviced 'C' at a price that leaves enough $$$ for a service.
3) If the cost of option 2) is close to the cost of a 'D' then buy a 'D' and avoid the hassle.

That pretty much sums it up.
I had the issue with the one I owned - fixed under warranty at the time.

2500 line has been completely out of production for 5 years or so, so I would plan on a service for any version, including 'D' unless service history is presented.

i've owned two 2500 non-Ds that never presented the issue. still own one of them and it was serviced by nesbits before the issue every presented itself. i also own a D currently that has been carefree.
