Wow
After screwing up 99.9% of the new releases, Omega comes out with a winner.
Smaller, not stupid tall, great design.
Love it
I agree. Thickness wise, this is what the 8500 should have been from the start.
42/15.7 and 39.5/14.2 is still about the same relative thickness.

Relative thickness? Actual thickness is what matters, I don't care about relative thickness. Regarding the size of the 39.5 version, I don't know if you skipped the first few posts in this thread, but it wears almost exactly like the Speedy Pro. The owner I exchanged texts with said there is little difference in how the Speedy Pro, 39.5mm PO 8500 and Rolex 16600 wear. Plenty of us out there are interested in 40 mm divers.

I had a blue ti liquid metal PO in 42mm and it was incredibly tall compared to a sub and similar watches. I couldn't wear it.

That blue 8500 is such a great watch but it was incredibly chunky. Huge miss from Omega and their resale value shows this.

I guess I'll need to need to handle the new 39.5mm in person to see how it looks. I do have a 42mm PO and a speedmaster and I will tell you they are the same size. The 42mm PO has a 40mm bezel. I would guess the 39.5 has a 38mm bezel. I have a pelagos with a 42mm bezel that is 14mm thick. A PO with a 38mm bezel that is 14mm thick will seem a good bit chunkier.

I understand a classic looking watch in 38 or 40mm. A super modern looking watch at that size looks off to me. Everyone is different though.

Your statement above demonstrates that there is far more than the numbers when it comes to perceived thickness or how a watch wears. I wore a Pelagos every day for a year and just switched to a Speedy Pro. The Speedy Pro is thicker, but wears much thinner than the Pelagos. This is due to the contoured profile of the Speedy vs the blocky design of the Tudor. Also, some of the Speedy's thickness is in the height. The Planet Ocean line has a contoured case like the Speedy, so it will wear thinner than a blocky design of the same thickness like the Pelagos or MM300.

I can't find anyone who has actually measured the bezel diameter on the smaller PO. In photos it looks similar to the 2500 PO. The dial is a bit smaller, but the bezel is thicker. It probably has a "bigger" wrist presence because of all of the polished surfaces.

Also, the assertion that the 42mm po8500 wears like a speedmaster pro is crazy. The 42mm po2500 wears bigger than the speedy.

I would assert that the 2500 42mm PO wears slightly larger than the Speedy. The 8500 is a tank compared to the 2500.

Completely agree, I currently own both and love how the Speedy wears on my wrist. I also like the PO but would prefer something a little bit smaller, hence my interest in the 39.5mm model.

Of course people have recommended that I just grab a 40mm Sub... but I like the PO design more.

I love the 2500 hands so much more than the 8500 hands.

And yes I've had a speedy 8500 PO and 2500 PO in 42.
Speedy wears much closer to the wrist while the 8500 sits really tall

I'm starting to feel like my 2500d is kind of cheap looking in the dial/hands/bezel. I'm getting the hankering to flip for the LMLE version, despite the 2500c movement.

I think the 2500d 42 has the most visual similarities to the old school Omega divers. You'd be better off to wait, keep the 2500d, and maybe add the new 8800 after they start getting flipped. The cost will likely be similar to the LMLE and you'll get the cool clasp, screw links, and better motor. Then put the 2500d on the rubber dive strap for a different look.

JP I think you're noticing it's age. I think the hands are perfect and the dial is very nice. I highly prefer it to the new PO's.

Definitely possible. I really like the case shape for wear on a strap or possibly mesh. The grass is always greener.

Were it not for that goofy 19mm lug spacing, I'd flip the 2500d for the new 39.5 version the second they get cheap.

Don't flip. Add. Keep the new one on bracelet, strap the 2500. Win-Win.

It's basically what I did with my 2500d on nato and the 8500 XL for bracelet.

I really want to try the old style open end mesh combined with the ploprof clasp. I should have picked up that mesh that was recently posted in here.
