No love for the SMPc?

Post by james80 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 5:44 am

There doesn't appear to be much love around here for the SMPc? Lots for POs and 2254s but we don't see the current SMP very often. Who's got one? What do you think? And does anyone have pictures of one on a NATO or rubber?

I think I'd like it a lot more if they updated the 2254, rather than the Bond model.

Not a fan of the bracelet or hands.

I have never really warmed to any of the Bond versions, and I am an Omega fan. I've had a SM 300, Speedmaster, 2254, Railmaster, SHOM, but never any version of the Bond.

The bracelet and handset have kept me away.

I've had the original Bond SMP and the sparse lume of the skeleton hands had me preferring the sword hands. Overall after owning it I wished I had the 2254.

Was never a fan of the Bond model even when it was new. Now it looks dated as I always associate it with Brosnan era Bond.

The ceramic adds that extra layer of shiny that I'm not a fond of either.

Around 2004 before I had more than one watch I really wanted a bond SMP, now however I prefer the 2254 but the price for a decent 2254 seems to have jumped recently.

I really like the inky black dial on the new one as well as the bezel. I am however concerned about the lack of micro adjustment on the bracelet.

Heading to England next week and with a subC being out of the question will be looking at a SMPc, PO, Pelagos, U1 and EZM3. The pound is weak so there's a chance of coming home with a watch.

I kinda like the blue SMPc, but like others have said I have always had a hard time warming up to the bracelet or hands. I think if I ever got one, it would go straight on to rubber in order to play down the "dressiness" of the watch.

I think Mattcantwin has a black SMPc. I have the first blue Bond quartz model.

Great watch. I liked it quite a bit. Its now gone. I would buy it again if it came up at a decent price.

From a functionality standpoint, Omega's bezel design is fairly hard to get a good grip on, especially with gloves. Plus the always prominent, but useless, HEV .

I liked my Bond SMP (non ceramic, wavy dial), but sold it to get the PO.

Wayne, I've thought about picking up a quartz model... sometimes they pop up for less than 1k.

I had a black SMPc briefly and decided between that and the 2500 PO. PO won at the time.
I will say that the classic SMP case is perfect for me. I didn't really like the piano glossy black dial and shiny bezel.
Did they ever make a black wave dial auto before it was ceramic? I've never seen one, but I'd snatch it in a heartbeat.

Oh yeah, and I don't like the bracelet either. But you can fit a 2254.50 speedy on it so it's not a valid downfall for me.

I've got the chrono and love it. The lacquered dial is absolutely amazing in person. The ceramic bezel just adds to it and makes it really pop. It is a bit thick and if I could trade my 42 for the 44 I would. It feels just a hair small for how thick it is.

Thanks! Got it from my dad, it wasn't used for close to 30 years when I got it. I just needed to replace the magazine springs for it to shoot/cycle as it should.

Love this (except the engraving on the case side, if it had it).

Our AD (airport duty free) had a new great white in stock for years that they ended up selling cheap, I really wanted that watch but could barely buy a timex at the time.

I'm off to recon to see what Exelonman man has to offer.

I've thought about getting a Ti and putting a regular black bezel on it.
I already have the Ti bracelet..

 No engraving on the case. Just a standard 2231.
