Manual winding Speedmaster
Manual winding Speedmaster
Just bought a near mint 3570.50 speedmaster that's 4 years old and I really am liking the watch. Wanted a moonwatch and would love to get a nice vintage example some day when I can afford it, but felt like this reference was a faithful interpretation of the original with the hesalite crystal and the manual winding 1861 movement. My only complaint is that the watch is difficult to wind what with the slightly recessed crown. Any body else have this problem or am I the only one with fat fingers? :-)

I also find it a bit of a pain to wind since the crown is small and sits flush to the case. A minor quibble with a great watch, however.dathanw wrote:Just bought a near mint 3570.50 speedmaster that's 4 years old and I really am liking the watch. Great first purchase. Your fingers will get used to it. I wouldn't go as far to say they callus with daily winding but there's certainly the equivalent to muscle memory going on in the finger tips. I notice it going back to the Speedy after wearing a number of other watches in the collection. But a couple days back with the 3570.50 and it's business as usual.

Wind it face down you can just roll the crown. Easy every day.

My fingers are too big to do it normal way. I needed a solution.JBZ wrote:I can't believe I never thought of that.unixshrk wrote:logan2z wrote:That's cheatingunixshrk wrote:Wind it face down you can just roll the crown. Easy every day.

Re: Manual winding Speedmaster
I find the Speedy really easy to wind - don't use the traditional 'finger and thumb' way, just use your finger and roll it underneath the crown. 15-20 rolls, and it's fully wound.

So for the first time I wound my 3570.50 upside down with the face of my thumb in seconds.

I've had two. I've had absolutely no issue using my thumb and forefinger to wind them.
