Display Case Back on my 69 Speedy

Post by 3cGT » Thu Jan 21, 2016 3:31 am

At some stage in the history of this watch somebody completely "polished" the Hippocampus off the caseback, so although the inscriptions inside the caseback are correct for this period it will never be a perfect collectors piece.

This and the other obvious damage to the case and replacment hands were all "priced in" so for me im happy with a watch that I can wear without stressing about knocking it about and just enjoy the vintage vibe. Anythow I decided to fit one of the excellent german display case backs and admire the handsome movement.

Yet to do Stu's trick with tobacco to tone down the lume on the handset but that will come next.

Cheers, Rob :salute:

I love the workhorse Dive watches of the 60s and 70s but the visual impact of these movements is something else, opening this one I had to get the boys all around to share the love and couldnt believe it was 45 years old

With a movement that beautiful, I would strap that NATO on upside down and just use my cell phone to tell the time...

Nice Speedy with the marking gone from the back cover doing the display back was a great idea. Just checked out Bulang and Sons straps and ended up buying one not a NATO got this one. They even have 18mm need to get one of those one of these days for a vintage chronograph I got one size that hard to find most are 20mm and up from most strap makers.

Congrats on that strap. Great straps and vibe on the whole Bulang and Sons is cool. Makes we want to buy something of what they offer!

Let a cigarette or cigar burn inside a semi-sealed tupperware box. Air outside for several days/1 week. Use fine paintbrush to pick up the tar residue and paint onto lume to tint it.
