Seamaster 300 Master Co-Ax on 22mm PO Fitted Rubber

Post by RALAustin » Sat Nov 07, 2015 6:19 am

I have wanted to try the PO based Omega fitted black rubber strap and deployant for a while after deciding that the Omega natos did not really do it for me. There is a 21mm/18mm version for the PO GMT but it is impossible to find except at retail prices. I finally saw the 22mm/20mm strap and deployant at a doable price that I knew I could likely recoup if it was a bust.

The strap arrived yesterday, and I spent way too much blood, sweat and swears last night trying to get it on (one end went on quickly, the other not so much :banghead:), but I finally got it on after playing with different length spring bars and giving a short 22mm spring bar a little curve. Not 100% positive that it is on securely for swimming etc.., but so far so good after flexing it around before and after going on the wrist, and pulling pretty hard to see if it would come apart.

Was it worth it? So far I love the combo. The 21mm version would be a lot easier to fit and I normally do like a bit more of a taper, but once on the watch the rubber actually compresses well and really hugs the case, and because the lug to lug is a bit shorter than the 45mm PO I actually have a lot less tail to fit under the wrist, which helps with the clasp being more centered. I have so many non-work watches on isofrane and/or nato that I have been craving something a bit more dressy diver that is fitted with a deployant. I have always loved the idea of the Omega rubber deployant straps on the SMP and PO, but they never quite fit right (the fitted straps always bowed way out and the non-fitted straps never seemed to center on the wrist). This rubber does not bow out at all and seems like a step up in terms of softness and comfort, and I do think that the lug to lug issue really helps center the watch.

Some quick pics as I ponder whether to pony up for the 21mm version.

Great job on fitting it to the case!
And a fantastic idea with this type of strap. I like it a lot.
I will check my Omega parts supplier if he has GMT rubber and will give a try.

Just wondering - are the holes for spring bar in this same place as in PO and GMT. If not it wont fit.

I have seen one pic of a person who fitted the 21mm GMT strap to this watch so it should work (where I got the original idea). I was flying blind with the 22mm strap, but it lined up well once I curved the spring bar to get the second spring bar pin end in the hold.

Mike, I love natos, but on this watch the OEM natos make it ride really high and bow out a lot. Plus, for my wrist the Bond nato is too short such that it creates either too long of a tail with no fold or two short of material to fold back without a lot of effort.

Looks outstanding Rob. But you seem a little unsure that it's secure; that would be a big concern if it were me.

Not in Ohio. We have a Jared in Columbus that is the largest omega ad in the state. They always have a handful.

Omega Boutique in Puerto Rico has at least this one. What a nice looking watch, my wife loved it (plus a white PO she wants for herself):
