Thoughts on 2014 Omega Speedmaster Mark II

Post by jimyritz » Wed Jul 09, 2014 1:57 pm

Bill had posted a link to the Omega Speedy Mark II for the Olympics in Brazil...

My question is regards to the non-Olympic version...

How do these cases fit (42MM)? Overall, a pretty cool watch..
Column wheel Chrono- Piguet 3330..

Thoughts?

It's a bad ass piece. Lumed internal tachy. The bracelet has the push-button micro adjust that we've all been waiting for.

Only downside I can see is the thickness...It's a hockey puck.

I've heard less than great things about the movement. Who knows if it's legitimately problematic?

Are you thinking of the old 3313 movements?

I definitely heard bad things about the 3313. Actually thought of buying one of the broadarrows a while back but then changed my mind..

Anyways, this one looks awesome :)

I love the one with the orange accents. I tried it a few weeks ago at the boutique and I'm seriously tempted to get one. The only think holding me back is that I don't want to lose my Planet Ocean.

Nice looking pieces, but for the money there are others that I'd rather have, like a Sinn 140 St S.

You're right. Does anyone know how similar this and the old movement are?

I had the same movement in this- there were problems with some of the earlier movements but I never had an issue...

I am more worried about the thickness...

Really coming down to:

The new Mark II or the new Seamaster Master Co-Axial 300...

I saw these at the Omega boutique at Tyson's corner about a week ago. These are STUNNING in person. Personally I like the one with the orange accents the best but both were really nice.

15mm isn't that bad. Although it does have a flat crystal and bulky case shape, so it wears that full 15mm.

I'm very tempted by this, but the afore mentioned Sinn with central chrono minutes SZ01 would get my money if I were in the market for one of these retro cushion case chronos.

I do wish they'd lumed every hour mark though. Missing lume plots drive me nuts:

The missing lume looks a bit odd.

I'd go with the diver, even with the faux patina. It seems like a more versatile watch.

It's 15mm.

Where are you seeing 18mm?

I've tried one on at the Omega Boutique. It's no where near as bulky as the POC and actually less thick than the Speedmaster 9300 with its stupid thick rear crystal.

That seems too big. Even so, omega is really pushing the boundaries of what's wearable every day.

I tried it on later in the day from Chris.

Loved the watch, but not the fit.

Nope. In fact the only model I can think of that's over 16mm is the POC 9300.

How thick is the 9300 Speedy? It seemed good and thick when I tried it on.
