Real or Fake?

Post by BMWRider007 » Tue Jun 24, 2014 6:03 pm

This watch was in with a bunch of watches I inherited. It doesn't wind or start up from shaking. I want to send it to seattle for repair, but only if it is real. I dont want t waste $$ sending it if it is fake. I also have no problem destroying it if it is fake. I realize most is it fake threads end poorly.

1. Inherited from my grandfather.
2. Only watch not with original boxes/paperwork.
3. Grandfather owned pawnshops.
4. I never saw my grandfather wear this watch. My grandmother doesnt remember the watch (but she is in her late 90's)
5. The watch and band seem light for being stainless.
6. The case back doesnt match e variants on 101.com.

I can take more pics as needed. I only have my iphone with me for a camera...

Thanks!

Looks like a Speedmaster reduced.

I would suggest posting on the WUS Omega sub-forum dedicated to catching fakes.

Looks similar to the photos here but better photos would help.

Plenty of fakes of lesser known watches out there. Lately there's been a lot of forum traffic about fake U1's.

I'm sure there have been fakes of the Speedy reduced made before:

Although it seems the one in the thread wasn't particularly good.

Cool. Thanks for the info so far. I posted up on WUS. Something just doesnt seem right... Its almost like its in too good condition. Its hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it has never been cleaned or polished. The lines are all very sharp.....

I had a Speedy reduced. I don't see anything about this one that immediately jumps out to me as fake.

I do to see why this would be an issue? Perhaps he has owned it for awhile and never wore it so it had little wear? If it would need serviced anyway - which it certainly would - open it up and have a look at the movement.

From the picture it looks right for a reduced... Take the back off...
