Omega OEM Rubber

Post by logan2z » Thu May 01, 2014 7:52 am

I'm thinking about picking up an OEM rubber strap for my PO. I don't really like the stitched rubber (and heard it's not very durable) but do like this one:

Can anyone comment on how this strap contours to the wrist? I've had mixed experiences with rubber straps that are fitted to the lugs like this. The Sinn rubber curved enough close to the lugs to fit well, but the DOXA rubber did not and left big gaps between it and my wrist.

I would have bought that PO on rubber.

I have the Omega Coramide strap with deployant for my Speedy Pro. Coramide is Omega's proprietary name for Kevlar. The Kevlar is a very thin film stretched over rubber. I think it is equal in all respects to my Sinn rubber for wearability and comfort. Both fit to the cases perfectly.

If you like rubber straps my experience is Omega and Sinn are among the best available. Pricey though.

Thanks for the reply. They are pricey but they do look good!

I had the rubber on a 42 mm PO and it was fine. It may look disproportional on the XL though.

I've idly wondered why a lot of guys here hate rubber straps. Or NATOs for that matter. I can only guess they don't wear them often enough to get used to them. Unintended consequence of flipperitis I'll guess.

I had that strap for my first PO (also 45.5) -

I liked the look of the strap and how it fit at the lugs, but I found it uncomfortable. There were gaps on both sides where it curved as it didn't conform to my wrist as well as I would have liked. It was also an inch or so too short for my 8" wrist.

I wear mine on Isofrane and find that very comfortable. The only negative is the straight ends.

I had that strap on the XL PO and loved it. However, I found the rubber compound a little stiff and the keepers on the strap kept splitting.

I hear you guys about the Iso, but I really like the look of the fitted rubber. I have an Iso, I'll try it before dropping the $$$ on the Omega rubber.

I think i have a photo from my 42 on rubber, but it wont look the same. Fits 42 ratio-wise better.
Ill look tonight for you.
Iso much more comfortable and ages better IMO.

I've got that strap on my 42mm PO 8500. It's meant for the 2500, so there's a slight height disparity where it meets the case, but it's not too noticeable. The rubber is supple enough, but not as flexible as an Isofrane. It's certainly not stiff like some of the Seiko bands. The only negatives are that the first keeper is quasi-fixed near the buckle (held in by a tab) and that my perfect fit is between two of the holes.

I personally love the OEM PO rubber. It is fairly firm but I much prefer that to the kind of sticky suppleness that straps like the Isofrane have.

I got mine from Ofrei - cheaper than from an Omega AD.

You will need to buy the strap, buckle, and springbars (different to the bracelet bars)

Yes gaps. Even on pretty big wrists, I think. Otherwise, I like the strap.

Straight on shot of the 42mm PO 8500 with the Omega strap on my wide, flat 6.75" wrist.

I should chime in since the rubber strap is what finally converted me to be a POXL lover. With the bracelet it would look like a pie plate on my 7" wrists, so I had written it off many times.
Once I got it on the rubber that all changed. There are gaps as mentioned by others, but I think it still looks good. In fact it's more comfy since the rubber won't get sticky due to there being less contact with the skin.
