Just "updated" my Apollo Speedy with a crystal caseback...
I didn't know the beauty hidden beneath the caseback of my Apollo-Speedy until I got this crystal caseback installed. Very pleased indeed. They must be crazy over at Omega for closing up stuff like this.
So I had to take a few pictures. And share it.
Oh yeah! Here's the front. Forgot:

When it comes to modern Speedies I absolutely think so. I really like pandas, and this one is just about perfect.CGSshorty wrote:The perfect Speedmaster?
It goes nicely with my pre-moon as well...
This one and my Apollo are probably the last watches to leave my collection, that's for sure.

Nice! Where did you get the display back?

eBay. Took a while, because I wanted one that didn't say "First Watch..." only Limited Edition. The display backs with "First Watch" on it pops up more frequently.

Awesome. Did the conversion require any additional parts (aside from the new case back)?

Great looking mod. How much thicker is the case now?

Re: Just "updated" my Apollo Speedy with a crystal caseback.
Thanks! No, only caseback. If you are planning buying one, make sure the caseback either is the right one for the model reference, or for a case that can house the same caliber as yours. Did that make sense?sinner wrote:Awesome. Did the conversion require any additional parts (aside from the new case back)?

Exactly the same. If you look at the original Apollo-caseback, there's the mission patch. This is actually made of crystal, although painted. Very nice indeed. The display caseback is the same as this one, except there's a see-thru crystal instead of the painted one.

Just ... Wow!
You've given me the idea - I wonder if the 1164 in my 3210.50 is that awesome. Anyone know?

Well, I think you need to do a broader search. Try google the reference number, see if a crystal exists, maybe there are compatible casebacks from other references?AntonioPD wrote:Amazing. If everything fails, you still can have one custom made (Thomas Preik in Germany): http://www.customwatchconcepts.com/
