Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
I saw these yesterday. No HEV is a good thing. I bet these will be appealing. I just cringe at the idea of the thickness of this thing with the 8500 in it.

Yeah, I hope they don't put the 8500 in it. Omega can't seem to make a diver less than 18mm thick these days. If they can make it relatively think and price it under the PO, they will have a winner. Will probably be a crazy expensive LE though.

In one of the other teasers they, tongue in cheek, call it "A limited edition of 100,000". There's a good thread with a better image on TZ-UK:dnslater wrote:dukerules wrote:I saw these yesterday. I like how it looks. In my opinion Omega needs to stop chasing Rolex in the price race. It's always been the case when you can't buy Rolex you buy Omega. It was something awesome about a Speedy for 1500 and SMP for 1100 few years ago. Doesn't swatch have BP and others to exercise unjustified price hikes?

Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
That's actually not the case. There were periods of time, prior to the "quartz crisis", where Omega was the more desirable brand. Rolex came to their current prominence by faltering less and recovering more quickly than the other brands.Panerai7 wrote:It's always been the case when you can't buy Rolex you buy Omega.
I agree with you though, I like Omega as a more value-oriented alternative to Rolex - unfortunately Swatch doesn't give a shit how we feel.
Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
This one looks like too much of a copy of the original. I'm not sure it's gonna work...
Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
Rolex really became ROLEX in the '80s when it was THE brand for discerning, coke-head bond traders. Two tone datejusts were flying off the shelves then.JP Chestnut wrote:That's actually not the case. Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
Me too. I was just thinking the other day how much better the PO would look without a date and with a #3 added to the dial. This was seems to be something like that, plus they got rid of the HEV wart. It could be too big, or too expensive, but I suspect it will be nice looking nonetheless.dshap wrote:I'm excited to see it
Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
This could be the watch to get in 2014.
Liquid metal, no date, no HEV, solid case back, 8500 cal, 43-44mm. All for ~$3500-$4000 street price, take that SubC ND
Edit: they already have the 44mm case from PO GMT, could use that.

Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
That seems overly cheap. The best NIB price I see regularly for a standard PO is $4,700. Adding liquid metal is going to raise the price.Panerai7 wrote: Liquid metal, no date, no HEV, solid case back, 8500 cal, 43-44mm. All for ~$3500-$4000 street price, take that SubC ND
Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
Yup. Try doubling that price if you're getting all those things. LM Ti PO is around $8600 MSRP.JP Chestnut wrote:That seems overly cheap. And if by street price, you mean used, then it's still another grand or two tacked on - more if it's a popular release. Less if it's the 16mm thick we're expecting it to be.

Yeah...I'm really hoping they don't screw this up.

Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
Honestly, I'd be happy with something bridging the gap between the current SMP (which I don't like the look of) and the 8500 PO (too thick). The modified ETA in the SMP is fine with me. That watch might hit $4,000 after discounts.matt.wu wrote:Yup. Try doubling that price if you're getting all those things. LM Ti PO is around $8600 MSRP.JP Chestnut wrote:That seems overly cheap. Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
Looks to me like an all original case design, similar to the original 1957, and abandoning the twisted lug design of the current Seamaster/PO line.Panerai7 wrote:This could be the watch to get in 2014.

Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
I get the sense that if it's too much of a throw back design it might not generate the mass appeal of models like the more modern PO. WIS are likely to love it, but not sure the general public will find it as interesting. Just a hunch.
Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
Yes, but they will also need to be careful not to cannibalize sales of the PO or Seamaster, so a slimmer, more vintage design might fit a nice niche. The original PO was intended to be heavily inspired by the original 1957 SM300, but as Omega has move upmarket, and fattened up the PO, it is less vintage inspired.koda240 wrote:I get the sense that if it's too much of a throw back design it might not generate the mass appeal of models like the more modern PO. Wonder how the Tudor Black Bay sells among general public? Guessing that might be the right sort of niche for a 2014 SM300. Make it similar to the original, but with a ceramic bezel and modern movement and subtly upgraded detailing.

Damn, I didn't need to see this!.....
I've been waiting for such a piece, so I'll likely get in line.
I'm betting 2500d motor.

Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
I suspect this watch is the latest in the line of "throwback" models: Ploprof, First Omega in Space Speedmaster, Bullhead, Speedmaster Mark 2, and now this Seamaster. Omega seems to be making a concerted effort to capitalize on their roots (which is great because they have older designs that are far superior to anything current).koda240 wrote:I get the sense that if it's too much of a throw back design it might not generate the mass appeal of models like the more modern PO. Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
I wonder about that, too. In general, the BB and this Omega strike me as something that would be popular among the WIS crowd - folks with a knowledge of the brand history and the ability to see that history in these new designs. Not sure if that translates to lots of sales to the general public (also, my guess is the no date thing is a turn off to a lot of people, but that's just a guess on my part).dnslater wrote:Wonder how the Tudor Black Bay sells among general public? Re: Upcoming a Omega release teaser
If it takes its cues from this with the 2500D it will be a winner. I'll guess $6K.dnslater wrote:
