PO8500XL Impressions

Post by 425ranger » Fri Nov 15, 2013 6:03 am

I've broken down and got my first NEW watch. I know I'll take it in the ass, but I fell for the 8500XL hard after seeing one at the local O boutique.

The splash of color just rocks.

Image

It is a little thick. Not a problem for dive watch guys, but a Rollie fan will be aghast at the weight. The applied indices are beautiful, very classy.

Image

The bracelet and clasp are very well done, and are held to tight tolerances. No micro adjustment means setting and forgetting, and that's an issue at times.

Very bright lume indeed, and with a couple colors...

Image

Very accurate as well, - .5 sec/day in a month of 75% wear. :headbang:

I haven't owned any of the "top tier" manufacture watches, however, this is one of my favorite watches ever made.

Seriously.

I have considered selling a few and buying the very same watch. Great choice.

That's a cool watch ---Ceramic, in-house, lume, accuracy, dial...

Congrats

Nice Bill and I hope this movement brings back the faith since the 2500 screwed a few people.

It looks nice. If I owned a PO I would buy the orange bezel setup from ofrei and figure out how to switch them.

Tried this on last week in 42mm and came away with much the same thought. A very well put together piece that while a little thick, looks like perfection on the wrist.

A friend of mine bought a new orange bezel PO when they came out. He's also a chef and the bezel scratched and faded pretty badly.

The current orange bezel isn't ceramic - Omega can't produce one in that color.

My favorite PO color scheme. Congrats!
I have considered this watch many times but always got distracted by something else

Yup, just learned this as well. Only the black bezel'd PO's are ceramic.

Un-blow your mind a little - the white ones are ceramic too.

I have had an orange bezel 2500 as my daily wearer for the past year. Always thought about picking up a black bezel from Ofrei to change out but love the orange too damn much.

This is the first I have ever heard of this happening to the orange bezels. I wonder if it has to do with heat or chemicals at his job? There are plenty of folks on the WUS Omega forum that have original 2005's with zero fading. My 2009 has zero fading.

Love Bill's new setup though with the ceramic black bezel and orange numbers. Love how the new orange numbers are cutouts and not painted.

THIS WATCH ROCKS!

Too big for me, though; I prefer the 42, but in the same color scheme.

VERY high quality piece

Congrats Bill

Congrats on the PO Bill

I love my PO 8500 and won't ever part with it.

Also, taking it in the ass and getting a new watch are very different things. You might not want to tell us about the ass part. If you need clarification, see Terry
