It's also one of the "most pure" designs available - Omega has produced a number of cringe-worthy LE's, but they managed to keep the classic Speedmaster Pro model relatively unmolested through the years.

That's totally true. $4500 (that's what it was last time I looked) for a brand new Speedmaster (before discount) is one of the best deals you can find for a big name watch. The fairly bad resale value makes them an even bigger bargain second hand as well. I avoided picking up a Speedmaster for many years because I wrongly thought the quality would be sub-par due to the price. I was totally wrong - it's a seriously nice watch.
