Do you like Omega's "red dot"?
A while back, I traded for an Omega PO. The outer AR was pretty scratched up so I removed it with a Cape Cod cloth. Once the outer AR was gone, I noticed a tiny "speck" under the crystal. I thought about taking it to a watchmaker to have that removed but decided not to as this would have required removing the caseback, thus disrupting the little red dot. My feeling was that the speck under the crystal would have less of a negative impact on resale value than disrupting the integrity of the red dot. Do you agree?

I wouldn't care about the red dot that much. After 2.5 year of use of the watch mine is almost gone. As a result of swimming , cleaning it etc. Its gone sooner or later.

What he said..... it wouldn't even be a concern for me.
Re: Do you like Omega's "red dot"?
they should somehow have it on the INSIDE so if it is opened and doesn't line up, they would know...
Re: Do you like Omega's "red dot"?
If it’s a few years old than no! But if the watch was bought new and it was missing than id be concerned.
Funny every time I flipped a PO, someone would ask me for a case back shot with the “red dot”
Than being said NO i dont like the red dot

I may be wrong, but I thought I remember reading that not every Omega (PO) has a red dot. Mine did not have it - though I did buy it from the original owner (it was only a year old when I bought it) and i've got all his paperwork where he bought it from an AD and afaik, he never opened it.

Possibly. But the seller and I talked several times by phone and he told me he didn't wear it that much - granted, that's not exactly precise information, he could mean he wore it 3 times a week! It's never been a big deal for me. What exactly is the red dot made of? Is it just enamel/paint??patstarrx wrote:BSears wrote:I may be wrong, but I thought I remember reading that not every Omega (PO) has a red dot. When I bought my SMP, it didn't have the red dot intact. I just brought it down to have the movement checked and pressure tested. Not the best answer, but I know for a fact that the movement is correct. Sure, it raises some questions, but that is why you go through the whole due dilligence process when buying a preowned watch anyways.
Some may not want to do this, but I just wanted to make sure.

A little dot of red nail polish can be reapplied by anyone.
So it's meaningless on a new or used watch.

Most buyers won't have the technology to chemically analyze the red dot, so there is no way of telling if it's authentic or not which makes it pretty much useless.

I just so happen to have a mass spectrometer in the back room and a gas chromatograph in the kitchen. I figured as much about the red dot deal. I'd rather have the seller's papers (e.g., receipt, proof of purchase, etc) than a splotch of red paint, which is why I didn't hesitate to buy my PO from my seller. Communication is really essential only as long as the person on the other end is receptive - finding other mutual interests is even better.
