Re: Is it possible?
The big issue is moisture. Argon is inert so having that in there is good as it displaces water vapor. If you can do it in a zero humidity environment-or very low humidity anyway- that would be another good option. A walk in freezer say for example has very little water in the air yanno something along those lines.

I have just been assured by my better half that I have indeed lost my f'n mind. this is what happens when I start to over think things. so no TIG welding, no fancy argon bubbles or hoods, and definitely no bombs.
So move right along folks, again nothing to see here.
(Though you all do have to admit that it would be pretty freakin cool, right? at least Chris actually offered some constructive help. Come, join me in my insanity. )

ok, fine. I won't completely count TIG welding out just yet. At this point, that's more likely to happen than me opening the U2.

Re: Is it possible?
found this nugget at wus about the Ar filling process:
I have witnessed the secret ritual that is the Sinn Argon filling process, and it takes a special filling apparatus and a 5 liter bottle of compressed Argon (2,500 Euro per bottle) available only from Sinn. The watchmaker puts the serviced watch into the sealed apparatus sans the Copper Sulfate capsule, evacuate the chamber of all air three times, fill the chamber with Argon three times, install the new capsule, remove the watch from said apparatus, then pressure test the watch past its rated depth.

Re: Is it possible?
I wonder if the CuSO4 tube exchange is just part of the regular service interval and not a necessary part of the Ar filling process. I can't see why it would ne necessary to swap out CuSO4 tubes just to refill the Ar.

They always like to swap in a new on because they are cheap so its cheap insurance basically is what I hear.

Interesting. I wonder if Sinn would sell one of those directly or if they only provide them when they service a watch.moishlashen wrote:They always like to swap in a new on because they are cheap so its cheap insurance basically is what I hear.
