Sinn Help!
Hey guys my U1 has had the AR taken off and I'm left with a bunch of tiny scratches to the crystal, knew it when I bought the watch and don't notice it until you really look! My question is has anyone used RGM for a crystal change and how long did it take?
Thanks in advance,
Trev

Don't quote me, but last I heard RGM can do everything but Argon replacement; however, I have never sent anything there for service.

Re: Sinn Help!
That's my understanding as well, but I also am pretty sure I read a mixed review or two about RGM and Sinn service. That seemed odd to me as I thought/think they otherwise have a good reputation.hazmatman wrote:Don't quote me, but last I heard RGM can do everything but Argon replacement; however, I have never sent anything there for service.

Do you think the scratches are to deep to polish out?

I MIGHT try a little flitz on a polishing ball. Especially if you're pondering a crystal swap, you have nothing to lose.

I would do the same or if the scratches are very light maybe you can use some toothpaste on it.

Re: Sinn Help!
I plan to send my U1 someplace for service during the next few months. RGM is one of the places I'm considering. I'm waiting for a response to my email inquiry about things such as costs for the crystal, but they do have a web page dedicated to this topic that gives fuzzy, but non-surprising answers.
However, I've very interested in people's real-world experiences with them. Good or bad...Dial Refinishing:
Prices for most dials cost from $150 to $300.
Pricing:
Complete service on most modern watches starts at $350.00

They also do not do anything with models that have oil suspension systems.
I asked Sinn Germany about Crystal replacement and they said ~2 months round trip.

I found a place called watch repair USA in NY and was going to use them but then i saw where watchbuys recommends RGM! The crystal is sapphire so there is no getting the scratches out! Can live with them but the watch is a keeper and thought i would like it with the AR!

Did you happen to ask Jay at MCWW? He could probably give you some ideas.

Re: Sinn Help!
i'm sure Jay could handle the job without any problems but it seems Sinn is very careful about where their parts go, almost have to deal with someone they setup as a repair center! wouldnt want an aftermarket crystal so i think RGM will be getting a call! Price really isnt the issue, want the watch back ASAP!

RGM seems like the best call....

Re: Sinn Help!
I would send it to Sinn in Germany. I had my U1 serviced by RGM and by Sinn, granted both repairs were unsuccessful, but Sinn took less than 1/2 the time, including shipping, that RGM did. Also, everyone says Sinns' communication sucks; well that is correct, but I could not get any answer from RGM either, and when I did get one, it was not correct. As an example, I was told about 6 times that my watch is ready and will ship tomorrow
There are only two kinds of people in the world, the ones that own Sinn U1, U1W, U2, UX, U212 and U-Unlimited, and ones that don’t.

Re: Sinn Help!
From RGM
There are a few tasks that require a watch be returned directly to Sinn for completion. Due to special bonding agents used and other processes involved a U1 must be sent to Sinn headquarters in Germany for a crystal replacement.

Can you feel the scratches in the crystal w/ your fingernail?

Re: Sinn Help!
I would try the polish route first. Get some diamond paste at 3 micron to start using a lens cloth and a lot of elbow grease and you can finish it off with 1/4 micron paste to color it. I think Ofrei has them in tubes.
