Sinn Movements

Post by jimyritz » Tue Sep 21, 2010 12:14 pm

Does anyone know if Sinn adjusts or modifies their watch movements?

For example, in the 756 or 757, standard Val. 7750? or adjusted?

Just wondering..

Thanks
Mike

That is an excellent question...for which I have no answer, but I will "ask around."

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Just based on the subdial placement, I think Sinn did some mods to the 7750 in my 757.

But I could be wrong

It's possible that it could be adjusted 4 places (like what UTS does). Anonimo does something similar with it's cronoscopio (supresses the seconds hand). It's similar to a 12-6-9 chronograph without the subdial at the 9. However, I didn't know that the 7750 could accommodate a UTC function.

Anyways, just was wondering especially because, you always see comments about the tegimented case, AR, oil filled case, etc., but seldom if at all have I seen anything written on the movements.

Thanks
Mike

Looks like the Kobold I got from Henry is adjusted to 5 positions.

That's great since I am only able to get into 4 positions these days. :raised:

No idea about the Arktis.

I know they are all top grade ETA's, but no idea about modifications other than the 6100 which does have some modifications, but not sure what exactly.

What about the subdial placement? Is that not a modification?

I would think so...Supressing the seconds sub dial must count as a mod
of some sort...

Thanks for the feedback guys...

I don't think so, they just drop the seconds register @ 9 o'clock.

As Steven said........

Based on what I could find on WUS, Sinn primarily uses top grade ETA movements.

It goes Standard(3), Elabore(4), Top(5), COSC for the ETA 2824

And Elabore, Top and COSC for the 7750.
-----------------
It looks like they have sprinkled in the use of elabore grade movements for some of the
ETA 2824's.

If you e-mail the serial # to Sinn they can tell you what grade movement is in the watch.

Mike

edit: UTS uses top grade just for a sense of comparison....

WARNING: Be careful who you contact after a quick google for "Sinn watch company". WatchBuys.com is the actual entity behind http://www.sinnwatch.com; the one you want is http://www.sinn.de/.

Here is my delightful exchange with them from this evening:

Chris,

Although I show that we corresponded with you about this model back in February, it appears that you did not purchase this watch from us as I do not show your name or e-mail address in our sales records.

For this reason, we cannot provide information about a particular watch or watch purchase other than to the original buyer - this is to comply with privacy regulations and additional policies that we have in place to protect the information of our clients. If you were to purchase from us, your information and transaction would be treated with the same policies.

If you did in fact purchase this watch second hand, I would contact the original seller to inquire about maintenance records or any other detailed questions about the watch as they would be in the best position to answer such questions. I would also ask if they are the original owner, as we often find that when we receive questions about pre-owned watches those watches have been sold more than once.

Thank you.

Yes, it was a mistake on my part. I was attempting to contact Sinn watches proper. You do a good job of masquerading your site as being Sinn, while you are really only a retailer. Congratulations on being so crafty. ;-)

Chris,

We make no effort to masquerade our site as Sinn's official site - with a name like WatchBuys, we are definitely not Sinn in Germany.

And we are not "only a retailer" - we are Sinn's official representative and distributor in North America.

Your message to Sinn will be referred back to us to answer as are other messages sent to Sinn from around the world where they have an official distributor.

My suggestion to you would be the same as before - if you purchased a pre-owned watch, the best source for information about repair history and other questions relating to that watch would be the prior owner. If there was service done to that watch, Sinn is not necessarily the place where it was done so they would have no records. And secondly, if the watch actually had multiple prior owners, this would be good information for you to have.

On Chronomaster UK they mention movement mods on a couple of models.

And on another note:

The modifications might be like IWC where ETA does it for them according to specs provided by the company wanting the modifications. This is pretty expensive though.

Part of my correspondence with Sinn.de :

----------

P.S. I do **not** want to deal with the US distributor WatchBuys.com, as I find them repulsive. I refuse to do business with them. If I can't deal with Sinn.de directly, I would prefer to not own Sinn products.
