Sinn service

I saw this comment on WUS from Al Archer and thought it might be worth something here:
There's no need to send this watch to Sinn or RGM. Any competent watchmaker can service this watch - I've serviced them before, even the Diapal versions. The Diapal requires some specific information to service (more what not to do than having to do something special) but other than that it's basically a stock ETA 7750 movement.

They do "modify" the movement to remove the seconds feature at 9 o'clock, but as you can see here it's hardly a difficult modification - they just clipped the post off and left it jagged - didn't even bother to smooth it out:

Have to say I found that a little disappointing to say the least.

As for the copper sulfate capsules, if they need replacing Sinn does sell them - all spare parts are sold through Watchbuys, which takes a long time but they do eventually get you the parts. Often they can be dried out if needed. In any case when I'm servicing a watch that uses the capsule, I keep it sealed up to prevent any moisture from getting to the capsule and potentially turning it more blue. Just needs a little common sense when dealing with these capsules.

...and it only takes a few trips to Germany to get it fixed correctly.

You know, I love hearing from skilled watch smiths. They have a way of cutting through the marketing B/S and "mystique" and simply tell it the way it is.

Years ago I used to work with a guy who was a certified Porsche mechanic. He used to work on all these exotic cars and, while they were dream cars to me, they were just another machine to him. I'm sure Al feels the same way about a most watches.

Try demagnetizing it first. My 103 was running similarly and was easily rectified with a cheap demagnetizer.

i've just noticed my 857utc is running about 30sec a day slow. time to start looking around for service. i don't really want to send it to sinn.

We can do the service if it needs it. If the amplitude and beat error is good then it might only need a regulation.

It's worth a try - looks like a demagnetizer is only about 10 bucks on ebay. I haven't had the best luck getting watches serviced, it would be nice to avoid it.

I bought mine on Amazon. I think it was about $15 delivered. Most of them look to be the same product with different labels.

Hey bro you can go to a clothing store and run your watch over the demagnetizer they use for the security tag on their clothes. It works also.
