Anyone try the 104?

Post by MDF » Mon Feb 06, 2017 3:42 pm

Seriously thinking I want to try one, probably the index model rather than the Arabic model but I do like the looks of both so it's almost a tie for me. Has anyone here tried it and what did you think?

I have, it is a really nice watch and it wore great. The only thing that turned me off was it being completely polished, or and the fact that it would have to go to Germany for service. It is a great watch though.

The 104 shouldn't need Germany, it's a standard piece.

I agree on the polished finish, but a bead-blast job (like some did on their 103's) would make it perfect.

It should wear like my EZM3F did, which was fantastic.

Edit: Here are some pics from Google -

Actually, RGM does the capsules now. Argon too. The only things they don't do are oil filled (EZM2 and UX) and crystal changes on the U-series watches. The cost to swap just the moisture capsule is about $125 as I recall.

They just told a guy I know they also service Sinn UX's. But he has to send it to them for them to confirm that they do.

Do you know anyone that has actually got the capsule done there or argon?

I think someone here, but I talked with RGM about all this about a year ago. It's straight from the horses mouth.

So who would do a good job at case/bracelet brushing or bead blasting. I have had it done at MCWW and at IWW by Jack, I was happy with both but that was a while ago, should I stick with one of them or does anyone have a better case finisher? I think I may want to get it brushed, if and when I get one that is.

Mark

The best is Duarte at NEWW, and you will get your watch back in a decent time. He has been modding watches for around 12 years. He was the og MK2 watch builder at one time. milwatch@gmail.com

T you must have been on too much viagra and molly :vlick:

Nope never happened to me, I've used both RGM and Sinn Germany. Have one with RGM now. Keep in mind; RGM has to get some parts from Sinn, so it's like a 3 week wait just on parts... ugh

Anyway, the only pieces that cannot be serviced by RGM are DIAPAL movements and Hydro oil filled quartz.

They do normal AR filling and capsules just like Sinn does.

T saying that RGM can do hydro quartz is news to me, and I hope it's true.

BTW I've never owned a 104. Good looking basic pilot. That's why I like the standard 103, it's a good looking basic pilot Chrono.

Mine is bead blasted, and it looks great.

It was Jeff who had the RGM issue. viewtopic.php?f=50&t=46215&p=918009&hil ... gm#p918009

Someone else also had the same problem.

RGM is so astonishingly slow, I'd just as soon go straight to Germany and get it done right the first time.

I've had slow turn around from both- but my experience this time with RGM takes the cake.

I sent my busted 103 to them, took nearly 4 weeks for them to respond that they had it. NO CONFIRMATION, which is standard for damn near everyone else who repairs watches for a living.
I then get a quote from them 2 weeks later. That's 6 weeks now for an estimate.
Something i wrote on the repair request note was if the dial was damaged from the shards that I want a dial replacement. So after the initial quote I get an email saying that the dial is scratched so the quote is now $175 more. I don't know why they needed an extra week to decide the my dial was scratched, and by the pics they took and sent me it was quite obvious.
Then I get this message after I said "yes I want a new dial":
Image

So is that 5-7 weeks plus 3-4 weeks?

So I think it's how 8-11 weeks I'll be waiting for the repairs.

My terrible factory service experience soured me on the brand. Cool watches but I'm reluctant to buy again.

Yup, I love the watches, but I'm scared when it comes time to service them.
