Help! Greekbum? U1 SDR for $1400?
Hi Guys-
Will anyone here vouch for member Greekbum in WUS?
I think I am about to pull the trigger on a U1 he is selling in the SC, but he only has one reference in "watch deals" and I am a little bit nervous.
Please help if you can. Thanks.

Re: Help! anyone know Greekbum?
Yes, I did. Haven't heard back from him yet.dshap wrote:Did you look into that reference (PM him, etc)?
Since then I have spoken with Greekbum AKA Nick G. on the phone.
Also, I googled greekbum, This guy has mucho references in mucho watch forums, just not WUS.
So now I feel ok about the seller.
New question. Is $1400 too much to pay for a U1 SDR, new in March 2010? most of warantee left. Rubber cut at 8", too short for me. I will have to source another rubber strap.
Watch was purchased in Germany, will it be hard for me to get warantee work done if needed?
He's giving me first dibs and another hour and 15 min to deside.
Help me think this out guys. I need feedback.

Re: Help! Greekbum? U1 SDR for $1400?
Sounds like a decent deal to me although a new strap will be $120. I'm no expert either and you can get a new U1 reg verserion on strap from watchbuys for 1380. If I wanted it I would go for it.

Good guy. Nikos is the guy I bought my 5513 from. Buy without worry.
Re: Help! Greekbum? U1 SDR for $1400?
Last week Watchbuys told me 3-4 weeks for U1 SDRs to be in stock at$1480. I would wait or get him down some to cover the new rubber. Someone at WUS was selling just the rubber without the deployants for a good price.

Here is the e mail from Rob at WB on 06/25/10
Christopher,
We have this watch on order with Sinn, and expect more pieces in 3 - 4 weeks.

I sent you a copy. I took out all my personal information though, I hope you don't mind. I don't need some Greek calling my house!

No idea Alan but I'm seriously considering picking one up at those prices.

You can source them from the Sinn Mod over there too.CGSshorty wrote:Last week Watchbuys told me 3-4 weeks for U1 SDRs to be in stock at$1480. I would wait or get him down some to cover the new rubber. Someone at WUS was selling just the rubber without the deployants for a good price.

Think twice before using this buying tactic, IMO, Leo. This is the type of stuff sellers (especially here) whine about with regards to dealing with WUS buyers. Often, trying to "prove" to someone that they need to lower their price is a surefire way to guarantee they won't lower it for you. I feel that if you want to make a lower offer go ahead and do so, but don't try to prove why you're right.
This guy is a pretty well-known seller in the vintage Rolex realm, so it's not his first time selling a watch.
Not trying to scold - just a bit of a different perspective. After all, if the U1 from Watchbuys is a better price, you should be buying it from there.

Matt-
You are quite right and I had already desided against going that way while I was out picking up my kids.
I'll be desiding in the next few minutes.
I've got to pay his asking price or not. He says he has buyers in line to take it if I don't want it, and I believe him.

As far as I know, Watchbuys doesn't negotiate.
Used is $1400 and you need a new strap.
New is $1480 with an uncut strap.
Seems clear to me, if he can't lower his price, wait for the new one.
Oh, and consider getting the bracelet form Watchbuys. It'll be cheaper with the watch and you won't regret it.

How big is your wrist Leo . I would go new now knowing what the price is. I thought they were a little more. Put in an offer either he takes it or not.

Re: Help! Greekbum? U1 SDR for $1400?
Well I.....
Bought it!
I told him I was waffling on it and he said that he already told his other buyers it was sold.
I felt honor bound then. Would have done the same for any of you.
As for the bracelet.... I'm usually strictly a bracelet guy (ask Chris V.). The Sinn bracelet is very comfy too. I wore it on both of the previous U1s I've owned.
So much has been said about this strap that I am going to at least try it for a while. Even though I haven't worn a watch on a strap since.... well never.
Bottom line is. I really can't lose on this thing. If I change my mind the WUS monster will eat it up again.

The good news for YOU GUYS is....
Now there's a DOxa 750 Sharky in WUS SC that I will NOT be buying.
Some one tell Paul! (deepcdvr)
2007 model, Buyer asking $1300.
Buyer looks pretty safe too. (Be your own judge!)

Good stuff, Leo. You'll be getting a great watch. Whether you had decided on used or new, the U1 is a great watch and the SDR is extra special. Congrats on the incoming...
