sinn t2

Post by jtbenson » Tue Oct 07, 2014 12:29 pm

while i agree the minute hand is an abomination--in that is lacks proper marriage with the hour hand, which i love--and that it's overpriced for what it is, but i have to admit i'm attracted to the material, smaller case size and the fact that it has 20mm lugs.

anyone here own one and have any direct feedback (i know rob had one but not sure if he still does)?

anyone try one of these on at the road show this year (i missed it, was out of town when it was in chicago), and if so what did you think of it in the flesh?

could this be retrofitted with the ezm handset?

I've never noticed this model before? I like it as is. Great size.

It looks infinitely better on an Isofrane than the bracelet or Sinn rubber. The hands suck, and I certainly wouldn't buy an expensive watch just to muck with fitting new hands.

Honestly, I don't like it. Good size though.

i find these specs confusing also:

T1: 45mm 12.5mm 22mm
T2: 41mm 13.3mm 20mm

i realize the Ar capsule is at the 6 marker on the T1 and on the side as per usual on the T2, but is that why the smaller T2 ends up being thicker?

edit:

nevermind. i see now that the t1 is rated to 1000m while the t2 is rated to 2000m

My two cents on the T2:

The specs seemingly make it the perfect watch for me on paper (41mm, titanium, 2000m depth rating, case weight of 59 grams and only 106 grams on bracelet), BUT for whatever reason I ended up grabbing others in the collection that fit the same niche more than the T2 after the initial honeymoon (41mm Kobold Soarway, Sinn EZM2 Hydro, Rolex No Date Sub, Doxa 600t Pro). The hands are definitely a little strange, but for me I think it was more that I tend to like the look of steel and/or a black bezel, and the Sinn gray ti and red accents have never worked for me in person as well as they do in pictures. I also associate Sinn with heavy bulletproof submarine cases and the T2 is over the top light--normally a good thing, but it was also perhaps a bit top heavy in terms of height to width, and I really prefer thinner watches. Finally, at that price, I could not justify keeping it when the Kobold and other Sinn were substantially less money.

All that said, I have found myself looking at the T1 and T2 again from time to time and wishing they came down in price. I do think the T1 might work a bit better for me with the wider but narrrower case.

Hope that helps.

Rob

For me too, the T2 should be a no brainer on paper. But the case, dial, and hands styling doesn't work for me at all. So it's a miss for me.

I'd love one...but the price is silly (as with most of Sinns recent pricing). The Pelagos will get my money next time I am in the market for an over-built ti watch.

I must agree. I wanted one, but the price does not seem to fit.

It is absurdly light. It feels like a toy watch. I couldn't get past that.

My two cents;

Regarding the thickness; I understand the T2 has a more domed crystal compared to the slight dome of the T1.

Regarding the watch; it's a decent looking piece, but would have been better without the arrow hand. I don't see it for the price, especially when a Pelagos can be had for the same (or less) money. When we consider the Sinn has the capsule and argon gas, meaning a trip to Germany (or eventually RGM) for service. With recent Sinn service issues this gives me plenty of pause. The Pelagos is about the same size & price, still titanium, looks great, and is backed by the fantastic Rolex service network. Easy decision for me.

I bought one thinking it would be a great watch - it has the Ocean2000 as its inspiration, uses the Aquatimer style spring loaded bezel lockup, 2000M, all ti, good size, etc etc. I really wanted to like it, but couldn't bond. Maybe its just too sterile a watch, with no personality at all, but I sold mine pretty quickly. In the end, it turns out to be a bit ugly.

Thanks Seth.

yeah, I love the aesthetic nod to the ocean 2000, but past that, it's not on the same level design wise. The specs make me want to like it but the face is a deterrent.

For now I think I'm leaning toward holding out for a 3536.
