If something is too good to be true...

Post by mattcantwin » Fri Oct 03, 2014 1:19 pm

Be wary! :shifty:

I bought a U1 on bracelet with box and papers for an unbelievable price the other day, so low it makes you nervous.

The box arrived today.

Image

Definitely something inside.

Image

Moment of truth.

Image

Looks just like picture seller sent, a LNIB Sinn U1 with box and papers.

The condition as described, superb!

Not the best picture, my hands were still shaking from being nervous about this.

Image

I'm happy to report the case back does not say Made in Japan, and the serial number matches the info on the Watch Buys card.

Image

So, do I worry about the fact that a U1 with a 2008 purchase date looks barely worn, and that somehow I got a very good replica...

or chalk this up to amazing good luck and enjoy the heck out of my 3rd U1?

Nice! Congrats Matt.

I don't get Sinn.

But at that price, maybe I get Sinn one day.

Was that the one for $850, or $8whatever...?

Thanks for the link, Joe.

I checked it out and now I'm a bit concerned it might be a rep.

The link compared the bezel indents, much shallower on the fake.

Here are some pictures of what just arrived.

Check the complete link because apparently Sinn change the indents on the bezel.

And your bezel markings look good also.

What about the pip? Color of hands (the darkness of the red)? the AR on the crystal (blueish vs purpleish)? That stuff appears to look good on yours.

The rest seems good.

I had no idea Sinn indents vary.

The paperwork indicates a 2008 purchase date, not sure how that impacts the bezel indents.

The weight feels good, I'll see if I can weigh the watch and the removed links to see how it compares to specs.

Here's the bezel from my U1-T for comparison.

Looks different from mine (my indents seem longer versus the non-indent area, top edge of the indent is nearly at the bevel edge on mine, more separation on yours), but if Sinn had different indents over the years, it could still be legit.

My serial number is 118xx. Bought in 2011 direct from Watch Buys.

Here is a comparison of real U1 to fake, from a replica site:

This pic is interesting (fake on right):

^^^ the indents on Matt's watch look even less pronounced than on the fake.

Matt, you should contact Rob and Tim and see if they can help you verify authenticity.

Matt, why not contact watch buys and verify the info? Or open the case back and check the movement.

Matt I can't offer much in the way of an expert opinion, but here is a gallery of some pics of my U1 that I owned previously (Original purchase was 2009 Watchbuys).
I think Brice owned this one also(twice!)

Guys, check post #9 on that link (same I sent to Matt). Apparently older Sinn bezels were similar to the Rep bezel on the pictures (smaller indents).

http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showth ... ost1743033

Would be great to find an owner of an older U1 to compare (mine has the newer style bezel).

An interesting WUS thread on U1 bezel types:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f24/sinn-u ... 95207.html

This pic of a presumably real U1 bezel does look something like Matt's:

Anyone know if the fakes also fake the Sinn/ETA movement appearance?
