So I contacted Watchbuys about a SDR bezel for my U1 and...
they told me I am better off selling it and buying a new SDR U1 from them They said for me to get a SDR bezel, I am required to send my U1 in to one of the US Sinn service centers and it would cost close to $600.
Now, I think I am a reasonable person, but $600 fucking dollars for a bezel?!?! And the fact that they'd require me to send my watch in to have 4 screws undone and a new bezel installed. Is this bullshit from Watchbuys or is Sinn this jacked up? All I want is the ability to quickly change the look of my watch without having to own 2 of the same watches..is that crazy?

Wow, that is messed up. But I have heard of brands before that will not sell you parts, without having you send the watch in. Which is a joke to me, if I am paying for a part, send it to me, dont worry about what I do with it. And $600 ...thats nuts, but not the first time I have heard about issues with Watchbuys, that is for sure.

Yeah, I have a UX and a U1. It really makes me reconsider Sinn as a brand. I can understand having the customer send a watch that requires special tools to swap a bezel, but its a piece of cake on the U series. Plus, even if you factor in shipping both ways, that would only be around $100 overnighted both ways. So, they want $500 for a bezel?

Here's my little email string..this is crazy:
Your Question I have a Sinn U1 and was wondering if it is possible to get an SDR bezel/screws from you guys? I really don't want to send it in for service to have it swapped out. Thanks
Rob
Rob,
No, this is not a route that we suggest you take for a number of reasons.
First, the swap can only be done by Sinn or RGM so you will have a labor bill, shipping bill and insurance to pay.
Next, the bezel itself is quite expensive as a standalone part. So by the time you add this up, you could easily be over $600.
We recommend that you sell your existing Sinn U1 on www.timezone.com on the Sales Corner which is free to list, and then buy a brand new Sinn U1 SDR which would have a new warranty if this is really the watch that you want to have. You will save money this way, and you will gain a brand new watch in the process.
And no, my answer is not an attempt to get you to buy a new watch from us - it is simply based on mathematics and having received this question many times. I too am a collector, and this is the route I would take.

I usually try to behave and watch my language here, but that is total and complete BULLSHIT
"simply based on mathematics".... this would be funny if it wasn't complete BULLSHIT
Pretty upset with myself for getting mad about your predicament, but what a load of... (someone finish this for me..)

Send the moderator of the Sinn forum on WUS a PM. He seems to have a way of getting parts from Sinn and might be helpful.

typical WB attitude IMO. and don't tell the SINN mod at WUS about this issue since he carries their flag pretty high.

None of the major brands will likely sell you a special edition bezel. Micros often will but sinn is that weird spot between micro and not.
I do wish we could mix and match to our desire but I can see the reasoning behind not selling parts.

Try getting a crystal for a U1.... Has got to be sent to Germany because RGM can't handle the job don't they pressure test their dive watch??? Love my Sinn but not much service in the US

Call RGM and ask them the same question....$600, I was thinking more like $350..

I think I remember hearing that new U1 bezels were around $500.

Re: So I contacted Watchbuys about a SDR bezel for my U1 and
I'll see what RGM says. I understand that companies won't send their parts out (even something stupid like a bezel that is secured by 4 screws), but $500 is stupid expensive for the part. The SDR isn't really a LE part since they now make the SDR model in regular production. I'd be furious if I got a ding on my SDR bezel (assuming I had sold my regular U1 and bought an SDR one) and then was forced to pay $500-$600 for a new one. $350 would be on the high end of reasonable. I might also just contact Jack @ IWW and see what he'd charge for a DLC coat on the bezel...might be cheaper
Re: So I contacted Watchbuys about a SDR bezel for my U1 and
MCWW will do it for about $50.
Same question to UTS about my 500, flat out denied. Oh and no to Plonguer hands either. I'm going MCWW for a set

Jay doesn't do DLC or PVD, he uses Cerakote which is not as good.425ranger wrote:MCWW will do it for about $50.

Of course Jae is right, but WatchBuys managed to say it in the most obnoxious way possible. Sell your watch and buy a new one from us- are you kidding me!
And definitely try to contact CMST Bo or w/e his name is on WUS.

Sinn is fully aware of how Watchbuys operates, Monopoly I guess. When you buy a watch you shold buy the company behind it also, looks and marketing BS can only take you so far.

I've had no issues with Bo myself, and he made plenty of trips to the Sinn factory. I'm sure he still has contacts there.
