I think the idea of expanding bracelets is pretty cool. It is the execution of the idea that is the challenge.

I've never had the opportunity to inspect a vintage Doxa Expandro clasp, but the author's comments about the springs eventually failing and buttons potentially breaking gives me pause to wonder about how the Tudor Pelagos clasp will fair in 30 years. There is a lot of complexity going in a high use component.

Of all the expanding clasp designs I've had the opportunity to mess around with (from the ratchet style found on so many micros to the Rolex DSSD Glidelock), I like the humble Seiko MM300 clasp best from a utilization standpoint. It is a simple design with no springs to fail. It is not bulky and it can be operated with only one hand while on the wrist.

It certainly isn't a marvel of manufacturing excellence, but it works.

I feel the "fail" aspect to be over-blown. It's a simple spring in the pad. I've restored dozens. It's really a simple fix.

Yes. I am constantly looking for them. I buy them as parts and pieces. At one time I had a tacklebox full of parts. A lot of that is dwindled. I just ordered one out of Israel. Still need to find some other pieces to it, but it’s getting a whole lot harder… That’s what she said.

I've never tried the Expandro...
But I did have one of Jonathan's spring clasp extenders and some old fix-o-flex bands...
I couldn't stand them.. The watch head flopping around with the flex drove me nuts

Would love it if someone made a modern tapering Expandro version for the 1200T. Big downside to this model is the non tapering bracelet.
